The Spotted Cow.

ONE morning in the mounth of may,
I from my cottage stray'd,
Just as the sun reveal’d the day,
I met a jolly young maid ;
Just as the sun reveal’d the day,
I met a jolly young maid.

Good, morrow sweetherat, where, said I
so early tell me now?
To tell you sir, the maid reply'd,
I’ve lost my spotted cow, &c.

Reveal no more, no longer mourn,
your cow's not lost my fair,
I saw her down in yonder grove,
I’ll go and show you where; &c.

I most confess you’re very kind,
I thank you sir, said she;
You’ll be sure to find her there,
come sweetheart and go with me;

Then thro’ the grove we took our way,
and cross’d the flowery fields,
I (illegible text) and told the amerous fair,
sweet harmless loving tales.

All in the groves we spent the day,
and thought it not too soon,
At night we wander’d back our way,
by the light of the moon.

If I should chance to cross the plain,
to go to view my plough,

I'll come and call you gentle swain,
I've lost my spotted cow; &c.
