נאי, נאה (b. h.; cmp. אות) to be becoming, handsome. Pi. ניאה to beautify, decorate. Suucc. 10a לנאותה to de- corate it (the Succah); a. e. Nif. גיאה, Hithpa. התנאה 1) to adorn one's self. N az. 2b (ref. to ואנוהו, Ex. XV, 2) וכ׳ לפניו אנאה Iwill adorn myself before him with good deeds; Sabb. 133b וכ׳ התנאה adorn thyself before him &c. R. Hash. 26a יתנאה בל חוטא a. sinner must not adorn himself (when appearing before the Lord to ask forgiveness). Gen. R. s. 16 (play on נינוה) שהם מישראל מתנאות (not מתגאות) they (the goverments) adorn themselves with what they take from Israel; a. e. -- V נוה I. -- 2) (cmp. הנה Nif, a. אות) to be pleased, to enoy, make use. נאלא II, נאלה m. (לאי. לה v. P. Sm. 2260) 1)fatigue, heavy load; cmp. אובצנא. Targ. Y. Deut. R. s. 23 (ref. to Job XXIV, 15) [read:] נואף שהוא מי שכל תאמר שלא נואף נקרא בעיניו נואף אפי׳ נואף נקרא בגופו do not say, he only who is unchaste with his body is called a nolf, but even he who is unchaste with his eye &c.; Pesik. [read;] וכ׳ הקב״ה לו מנאצים שאבות דור a generation in which the parents insult him, the Lord will &c.; Yalk. Deut. 94 5 וכ׳ בו מגאצין. . . . -- Sifre Deut. 320 לפניו מנאצים, v. נאה. Num. R. s. 7 זר נעשה לאלהים שני׳ מי כל whoever insults God becomes an outcast (leper). Ib. אותי נאצו הם they insulted me.
