A TTAINED. 26$

But deep in the frozen bosom set Was a murmur low, full of deep regret For the soul denied to the snow-bloom yet.

All vain its dower of petals white,

Its silver crown fretted fair and light,

That touched no heart with its beauty bright.

No kiss of love to its shimmer bent, No loving form o er its fairness leant, Till its little life had been lonely spent.

A whisper rose from a lily-bell, As it opened soft under April s spell, " Oh listen, wind, till my joy I tell !

" I did but sleep for a little space ; My Master seemed but to hide his face, To clasp me close in a new embrace

"A little while in the silent tomb, Ere I rose anew in a lily s bloom, To light the shade of the garden s gloom.

"And now, through the blossom s velvet scroll, I take, unbought, from His hand the dole Of a lily s peaceful and sinless soul

"A lily s soul with its message rare

For the passer-by, through the scented air, With its kisses gathered everywhere."
