From Sinope to Caruſa 150 ſtadia. This place ſtill preſerves its name, being called Carſa at preſent, according to Tournefort, or Keſereh, according to Arrowſmith's chart. Tournefort travelled this ſtage himſelf, and found it, as he ſays, 18 miles, and obſerves thereupon, that 18½ miles make juſt 150 ſtadia; and that "it is ſurpriiing that the meaſures of the ancients ſhould anſwer ſo exactly as they do to modern computation." In confirmation of this, We may obſerve, that Arrowſmith's chart makes this diſtance to be 19 miles.
