Incorporated by act of Parliament, in 1865, as the Alexandra (Newport) Dock Company, and the name was changed, by a further act in 1882, to the above title. In operation, 9¼ miles of railway, 49½ of sidings, and 13 miles of foreign lines are worked over. Running powers over 88 miles.
The company was authorised to construct docks, railways, and other works in connection therewith, which were opened in April, 1875.
They have powers to make arrangements with the London and North Western, Great Western, and other companies.
The total capitol is 2,105,000l., viz., 1,600,000l. stock, and 505,000l. loans and debenture stock.
