Thomas Kent, A.M., was installed in 1554; and in

1559 he succeeded Belsire in the fourth stall. Thomas Bernard was restored in 1559. He died 30th

Nov. 1582, ami was buried in the churchyard of Pyr-

ton in Oxfordshire. Martin Heton, A.M., was admitted 2nd Dec. 1582.

He became dean of Winchester, and in 1599 was

made bishop of Ely. Leonard Hittox, S.T.B., was installed 19th Dec.

1599. He died 17th May 1632, ictat. 75, and was

buried in the Divinity-chapel joining to this cathe- dral '". John Wall, S.T.P., was admitted in May 1632. He

died 20th Oct. 1666, eetat. 78, and was buried in the

cathedral. His will is in the Prerogative Office of

Canterbury M . Richard Heylin, S.T.P., was installed 30th Nov.

1 666'-. He died 26th April 1669, and was buried in

one of the north aisles of this cathedral. Henry Compton, A.M., succeeded 24th May 1669.

He became bishop of this see, and afterwards of

London. Henry Smith, S.T.P., was instituted 20th Dec. 1675,

vice bishop Compton, translated to London. He was

buried in the cathedral 21st Oct. 1702. Francis Gastrell, S.T.P., was instituted 5th Jan.

j 702-3, vice Smith. He became bishop of Chester,

and held this stall in commendam. He died 14th Nov.

1725- John Gilbert, S.T.P., nominated 22nd and installed

29th Jan. 17256, per mortem Gastrell, bishop of

Chester 13 . He became dean of Exeter in 1726, and

bishop of Llandaff in 1740, and held this canonry in

commendam 14 . Resigned this stall on his translation

to Salisbury in j 748.
