Away he goes, he flies, the rout

23. The Cuckoo.

The bee is humming in the sun,
The yellow cowslip springs;
And, hark! from yonder woodland's side
Again the Cuckoo sings;
No other note but Cuckoo still
She sings from day to day;
Yet I, though but a little child,
Can read, and sing, and pray.


24. John Barleycorn.

There went three kings into the east,
Three kings both great and high;
And they have sworn a solemn oath,
John Barleycorn shall die.

They took a plough and plough'd him down,
Put clods upon his head;
And they have sworn a solemn oath,
John Barleycorn was dead.
