OVER the sloping hills we rode,
You and I together.
Through grassy fields on spirited steeds,

We saw the beautiful wild flowers bright,
Nodding their heads in warm sunlight,

We followed the meadow lark,
That soared so high, into white clouds
Of the bright blue sky;
And we looked at each other with a tell-tale eye,

Into the thicket we did ride,
Pacing our horses side by side,

We heard the distant thunder roar,
And saw the wind sweep all before,

On and onward our steeds we sped,
Through brushwood and grove we madly fled
