Act

To amend the Rhodes’ Will (Groote Schuur Devolution) Act, 1910, so as to confer upon the State President certain powers in relation to certain properties included in the Groote Schuur Estates.

Be it enacted by the State President and the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, as follows:―

Insertion of section 1A in Act 9 of 1910.

1. The following section is hereby inserted in the Rhodes’ Will (Groote Schuur Devolution) Act, 1910, after section 1:

“Power of State President in relation to certain properties included in the Groote Schuur Estates.

1A. Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 1 and 2 of this Act or of clauses 13 and 14 of the Will of the testator, the State President may—

(a)

grant permission that the residence known as De Groote Schuur also be used for the purposes of establishing and maintaining a museum;

(b)

place a portion of Erf 44214, Cape Town, in extent approximately 13 hectares, at the disposal of any person to be utilized as a park, open to all members of the public, subject to such conditions as the State President may determine from time to time,

but the said residence and the said portion of the said erf shall remain vested in the State President.”.

Short title.

2. This Act shall be called the Rhodes’ Will (Groote Schuur Devolution) Amendment Act, 1985.
