The Rule to XXXIII. And for the preventing Difputes that may arife concerning the Admeasurement of Ships lade: meafure the -with Brandy and other Spirits as aforefaid, or Ships hovering on the Coaft : Be it further enacted by th ToWe ffch Authorit y aforefaid, That the following Rule fhall be obferved therein, that is to fay, Take the Length c Ships' 6 " ° ' UC1 the K £e l within board, (fo much as fhe treads on the Ground) and the Breadth within board by the Midfhip Beam, from Plank to Plank, and Half the Breadth for the Depth, then multiply the Length by the Breadth and that Product by the Depth, and divide the Whole by ninety-four, the Quotient will give the true Con tents of the Tonnage, according to which Rule, the Tonnage of all fuch Ships and Veffels fhall be mea fured and afcertained ; any Law, Cuftom or Ufage to the contrary in any wife notwithflanding. Eight or more ' XXXIV. Year of his prefent Majefty's Reign, intituled, An Ail for the further preventing Robbery, Burglary, or othei Felonies, and for the more effeclual Tranfportation of Felons and unlawful Exporters of Wool, and for declaring the Law upon fome Points relating to Pirates, the Offenders therein mentioned are to be tranfported to the faid Colonies and Plantations. Returning into XXXV. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That if fuch Offender or Offenders fhall returr Great Britain or j n to Great Britain or Ireland, before the Expiration of the faid Term, contrary to the Intent and Meaning Ireland, Felony, hereof, he or they fo returning, fhall fuffer as Felons, and have Execution awarded againft them as Perfon: attainted of Felony, withoufc*Benefit of Clergy. ConTfaL dif- XXXVI - Provided neverthelefs, That if any fuch Offender fhall within two Months after fuch his Of covering two of" fence, and before hisjConviction, difcover two or more of his Accomplices therein to the Commiffioners o his Accomplices the Cuftoms in England or Scotland reflectively, fo as they, or two of them at leaft, be convicted of fuel •within two Offence, the Offender fo difcovering fhall have and receive the Sum of forty Pounds for every Offender f< Months, to have dif C0V ered and convicted, as a Reward for fuch his Difcovery, and fhall be clearly acquitted and difcharget 40I. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That from and after the firft Day of Aw difcovering in gift one thoufand feven hundred and twenty, if any other Perfon or Perfons fhal], within three Months afte three Months to fuch Offence fhall have been committed, difcover to the faid Commiffioners reflectively any Perfon or Per- have4ol.over fo n s who fhall have been guilty of fuch Offence, fo as fuch Offender or Offenders be convicted thereof above any f uc h Difcoverer or Difcoverers fhall have and receive the like Reward of forty Pounds for every fuch Of fender fo difcovered and convicted, over and above any ether Reward and Recompence which he or thei may be entitled unto on Account of the Goods fo carried or conveyed away, which fhal! be recovered b; Means of fuch his or their Difcovery, or on Account of the Penalty which fhall be recovered for the run ning the faid Goods. To be paid by XXXVIII. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the Commiffioners of the Cuftom the Caihier of va. England' ox Scotland, fhall caufe the feverr.l Rewards of forty Pounds for the Difcovery of the Offender: iheCufloms. before-mentioned, to be paid by the refpective Receiver General or Cafhier of the Cuftoms for the Timi being, ojt of any publick Money in his Hands under the Management of the faid Commiffioners, upon pro- ducing to them a Certificate or Certificates under the Hand of the Judge or Juftice of the Court before whorr the Caufe fhall be tried certifying the Conviction of the Offender or Offenders; and the Money fo paic by any Receiver General, as aforefaid, fhall be accepted of and allowed in his Accounts, as fo much paic to his Majefty, and he is and fhall be hereby difcharged thereof accordingly ; any Law, Cuftom or Ufagi to the contrary notwithftanding. ' XXXIX. And whereas prohibited and cuftomable Goods found by Officers of his Majefty's Cuftoms ir ' the Cuftody of Perfons in Boats on the Water, or coming directly from the Water-fide, to wit, thi ' cuftomable Goods on Sufpicion they were unfhipped without Payment of Duty, and the prohibited Good ' for being imported contrary to Law, and fuch Goods being alfo found in other Places, upon In forma- ' tion that they were clandeftinely run, are in like Manner ftopt until the Perfons in whofe Cuftody thi ' fame are found, or the Owners of fuch Goods, fhall apply to the Commiffioners of the Cuftoms, or t( 5 the Collector of the Port where fuch Goods are ftopt respectively, that the faid Goods may be difchargec ' in cafe there be no juft Caufe to detain the fame ; neverthelefs the Owners of the Goods, inftead of makin; ' fuch Application, do fue the Officers for more than the Value thereof, to their great Charge and Difcou- ' ragement in the Execution of their Duty : And whereas there is good Reafon to believe, that many ill ' difpofed Perfons do put themfelves purpofely in the Way of Officers with fuch Goods in their Cuftody 1 ' and that others, by the Directions of the Owners, do falfly or deceitfully inform the Officers that the Good ' were run, to the Intent fuch Officers fhould feize the fame, in order to fue the Officers, and thereby tin ' Owners get exceffive Prices for their Goods, and the Officers are deterred from making Seizures, whereh; Prohibited or ' (- ne clandeftine running of Goods is greatly encouraged :' Be it therefore enacted by the Authority afore faid, That from and after the firft Day of Auguft one thoufand feven hundred and twenty, if prohibits 01 cultom-i l jie Goods in any
