An A£t for paying off and cancelling one million of Exchequer-Bills, and to give Eafe to the Soutb-Sea Company, in refpect of its prefent Obligation, to circulate or contribute towards circulating Exchequer-Bills ; and to give further Time to that Company for Repayment of one million which was lent to them'; and for iffuing a further Sum in New Exchequer-Bills, towards his Majefly's Supply, to be difcharged and cancelled, when the faid Company fhall repay the million owing by them; and that the Exchequer-Bills which are to continue, may be circulated at eafy and moderate Rates ; and for appropriating the Supplies granted to his Majefty in this Seffion of Parliament ; and for Relief of the Sufferers at Nevis and Saint Chrifiophers, by an Invafion of the French in the late War ; and for laying a further Duty on Apples imported ; and for afcertaining the Duties on Pictures imported. Tk JF OST gracious Sovereign ; Whereas amonglt divers Matters and Things contained in an Act J_VJ_ of Parliament made and palled in the fixth Year of your Majefly's Reign, intituled, An Act for 6 Ceo. 1. c, 4, enabling the South-Sea Company to increafe their prefent Capital Stock and Fund, by redeeming fuch publick Debts and Incumbrances as are therein mentioned ; and for raifing Money to be applied for leffening fever al of the publick Debts and Incumbrances ; and for calling in the prefent Exchequer-Bills remaining uncancelled ; and for making" forth new Bills in lieu thereof, to be circulated and exchanged upon Demand at or near the Ex- chequer, It was recited or mentioned, That after the Application of fuch Monies as are therein fpeci- fied, the Principal Monies to remain due upon Bills, commonly called Exchequer-Bills, made forth by Virtue of former Acts of Parliament in that Behalf, and would then be in or out of the Exchequer un- cancelled and undifcharged, would by Eftimation amount unto eight hundred ninety-fix thoufand fix hundred fixty-two Pounds ten Shillings or thereabouts, befides Intereft on them or fome of them ; and it was thereby enacted, That the faid Refiduary Bills fhould be brought in to be changed for new Bills, upon fuch Notice, and in fuch Manner, as was thereby prefcribed ; and that the Commiffioners of the Treafury, or any three or more of them, or the High Treafurer for the Time being, fhould caufe new Bills to be prepared and made forth at the Receipt of the Exchequer, for any Sum or Sums of Money, whereof the Principal fhould not exceed the faid eight hundred ninety-fix thoufand fix hundred fixty- two Pounds ten Shillings, adding thereunto the Intereft Monies which fhould appear to be due there- upon ; and that fuch new Bills fhall bear an Intereft not exceeding the Rate of two Pence per Centum per Diem ; and it was thereby enacted, That the faid Company, or their Court of Directors in their Behalf, fhould from time to time, during the Term of feven Years, to be reckoned from the Feaft of the Nativity of Saint John Baptijl one thoufand feven hundred and twenty, furnifh, fupply and pay to Truflees to be chofen or conflituted, as is therein mentioned, fo much ready Money, in the lawful Coins of this Realm, as fhould be fufficient to enable fuch Truftees to exchange all fuch of the faid Bills to be made forth by Virtue of that Act; as fhould be demanded at the publick Office of the faid Truftees, at any Time or Times within the faid Term of feven Years, by paying (in fuch ready Mo- ney) upon every fuch Demand, all the Principal Monies contained in every fuch Bill, and the Intereft which, fhould then be due thereupon, and fo toties quoties, as often as any fuch Bill fhould be demanded; and in cafe, during that or any future Seffion or Seffions of Parliament, any other Act or Acts of Parlia- ment was or fhould be made for making forth any further Sum or Sums inExchequer-Bills, to be circulated by Truftees at or near the Exchequer, and to be current at any Time or Times, within or during the faid Term of feven Years, or for any Part of the fame Term, at the Exchequer, and in the publick Revenues and Taxes, upon Credit of fuch Fund or Security, or of fuch Monies to be borrov/ed thereupon, as by Authority of Parliament fhould be eftablifhed or appointed, to fupport the Currency thereof, then the faid Company were thereby enjoined and required by themfelves, or their Court of Directors for the Time be- ing (from time to time, during the faid Term of feven Years, or for fo much of that Term as the Exche- quer-Bills, to be made forth by fuch other or future Aft or Aits of Parliament, fhould have a joint Curren- cy with the faid Bills to be made forth by Virtue of the Aft in Part before recited, or be current together or at the fame Time) to furnifh, fupply and pay to fuch Truftees in lawful Coins of this R.ealm, a proper- 6 Geo. 1. c. 4, tional Part of fuch ready Money, as fhould be fufficient to enabble the fame Truftees to exchange all or anv of the Bills which fhould be fo current, whether th'ey were Bills made forth by Virtue of the Aft in D d d z ' Part
