And whereas by feveral Acts of Parliament, feveral Duties are payable upon the Importation of Books bound ' Books bound, which Duties being payable ad Valorem, have been found inconvenient;' For Remedy imported, to pay whereof, Beit enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the faid Duties payable ad Valorem, for all ^ {"" Books bound, which fhall be imported from and after the twenty-fourth Day of "June which fhall be in C ' 6 ' " the Year of your Lord one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-three, fhall ceafe and determine, and in- ftead thereof there fhall be payable and paid to his Majefty his Heirs and Suceffors, for all bound Books which fhall be imported into Great Britain, from and after the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thou- fand feven hundred and twenty-three, the Sum of fourteen Shillings of lawful Money of Great Britain, for every hundred Weight, and fo in Proportion for any greater or leffer Weight, which Duty fhall be paid down in ready Money by the refpedive Importers of fuch bound Books, from Time to Time, be- fore the landing of the fame refpectively. VII. And be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the faid Duty upon bound Books imported, How to be raifed fhall be raifed, levied, recovered and paid, and be brought into the Exchequer, by fuch Rules, Ways, Means and Methods, and under fuch Penalties and Forfeitures, and in fuch Manner and Form as the Duties upon bound Books hereby taken away, or any of them, might or ought to have been raifed, le- vied, recovered or paid, before the making of this Act. VIII. Provided always, and it is hereby enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the Duty to arife and appropriated. upon the Importation or Books bound purfuant to this Act (the neceffary Charges of Management de- ducted) fhall be appropriated and applied, as near as maybe, to the fame Ufes and Purpofes to which the former Duties upon bound Books, by this Act taken away, were applicable or ought to have been ap- plied, if this Act had not been made. IX. Provided alfo, and it is hereby enacted, That the Duty by this Act charged upon bound Books Redeemable by imported or any Part thereof, fhall be redeemable by Parliament, in the fame Manner as the faid former Parliament. Duties on bound Books hereby taken away or any of them, were redeemable; and in all Cafes where the faid former Duties on bound Books or any of them, were to ceafe or determine, the Duty hereby granted, See farther is or a proportional Part thereof fhall ceafe or determine. <*&• -• '• 3 6 r " Claufe for iffuing Certificates and Debentures for Arrears due to five Regiments, to be fatisfied by An- " nuities.
