An Aft to amend an Aft pa/Ted in the feventh Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King George the Firft, intituled, An Act to preferve and encourage the Woollen and Silk Manufactures of this Kingdom, and for more effectual employing the Poor, by prohibiting the Ufe and Wear of all printed, painted, Jiained or dyed Callicoes, in Apparel, Houfhold Stuff, Furniture, or otherwife, after the twenty-fifth Day of December one thoufand feven hundred and twenty- two (except as is therein excepted) fo far as relates to Goods made of Linen Yarr^ and Cotton Wooll, manufactured in Great Britain. Preamble, re- ' TT7HEREAS by an Act palled in the feventh Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King George 7Gel. 1.07, ' V V the Firft, intituled, An Ac! to preferve and encourage the Woollen and Silk Manufactures of this ' Kingdom, and for more effectual employing the Poor, by prohibiting the Ufe and Wear of all printed, painted, 1 Jiained or dyed Callicoes, in Apparel, Houjhold Stuff, Furniture or otherivije, after _ the twenty-fifth Day of ' December one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-two {except as is therein excepted) it is enacted, That the

  • Prohibition of Callicoes intended by the faid Act, and the Penalties thereby inflicted for wearing or
  • ufing printed, painted, ftained or dyed Callicoes in Apparel, Houfhold Stuff or Furniture, after the

' twenty-fifth Day of December one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-two, contrary to the faid Act, ' fhould refpectively extend to prohibit, and fhould be levied and recovered, for wearing or ufing in ' Apparel, Houfhold Stuff or Furniture, after the faid twenty -fifth Day of December one thoufand feven ' hundred and twenty-two, any Stuff made with Cotton, or mixed therewith, which fhould be printed ' or painted with any Colour or Colours, or any Callicoe chequered or ftriped, or any Callicoe ftitched or ' flowered in foreign Parts with any Colour or Colours, or with coloured Flowers made there (Muflins, ' Neckcloths and Fuftians excepted) in fuch Manner as the Penalties inflicted by the faid Act for

  • wearing or ufing printed, painted, ftained or dyed Callicoes in Apparel, Houfhold Stuff or Furniture,

' after the faid twenty-fifth Day of December one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-two, contrary to ' the faid Act, are to be levied or recovered, but under fuch Limitations, and with fuch Liberties, Privi- ' leges and Advantages, as are mentioned and expreffed in the faid Act, or in any other Act or Acts 1 of Parliament then in Force relating thereto, or relating to printed, painted, ftained or dyed Calli- ' coes : And whereas great Quantities of Stuffs made of Linen Yarn and Cotton Wooll have for feveral ' Years paft been manufactured, and have been printed and painted within this Kingdom of Great Britain, ' and the faid Manufactures fo printed or painted are a Branch of the ancient Fuftian Manufacture '. of this Kingdom, and have been and are now ufed and worn in Apparel and Furniture : And whereas ' fome Doubts have lately arifen, whether the Ufe and Wearing of the faid Stuffs, when the fame are ' fo printed or painted, be prohibited by the faid recited Act, whereby the faid Manufacture is dif- ' couraged, and may be utterly loft, and great Numbers of his Majefty's Subjects and their Families, ' whofe Livelihoods intirely depend thereupon, may be ruined, and the Poor greatly increafed, if not ' timely prevented : ' For Remedy whereof, be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and Stuff made of w j t h t ^ e Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and, Commons, in this prefent Par- Cotton Woo)" hament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That nothing in the faid recited Act fhall extend. manufactured or be conftrued to prohibit the wearing or ufing in Apparel, Houfhold Stuff, Furniture or otherwife, JairfiPth w" an y ^ ort °^ Stuff made of Linen Yarn and Cotton Wooll manufactured and printed or painted with any bemtireiyLinen) Colour or Colours within the Kingdom of Great Britain, provided that the Warp thereof be intirely may be worn, Linen Yarn ; and that no Perfon fhall incur, or be deemed or adjudged, or taken to incur, any Penalty the tV fai t d < Aa djnS 01 Forfeiture whatfoever for wearing or ufing fuch Manufacture fo printed or painted as aforefaid; any thing in the faid Act to the contrary thereof in any wife notwithftanding. fiich P Wearin for ^ ^ nc * be '* ^ urmer enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That none of the Penalties in the faid for- to°be recovered mer Act, which may have been incurred for the wearing or ufing any Sort of Stuff made of Linen Yarn uniefs where and Cotton Wooll manufactured and printed or painted within this Kingdom as aforefaid, fhall be reco- Judgmem hath V ered or levied, uniefs fome Profecution for the fame hath been already commenced, and Judgment tibtainecf. 3 y already obtained thereupon ; any thing in the faid former Act contained to the contrary in any wife not- ice farther withftailding.
