An Act for further Encouraging and Regulating the Manufacture of Briti/h Sail Cloth, and for the more effectual fecuring the Duties now payable on foreign Sail Cloth imported into this Kingdom. ' T7HEREAS the making of Sail Cloth in Great Britain hath been found of great Ufe and. Be- Preamble-. ' VV nefit to this Nation, by having given a comfortable Support and Maintenance to many of i^FormerPrvoift ' Majefty's Subjects employed in the manufacturing thereof; and there is Reafon to believe, that if ™jg"?i. ^24. II. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the Commiffioners of the Cuftoms incc-mmiffioners Great Britain fhall, on or before the faid twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and of t!,e puftoms. thirty-fix, provide or caufe to be provided fuch or fo many Stamps, with which all the faid imported sumps? -6 foreign made Sail Cloth or Canvas, upon or after the Duty paid, fhall be ftamped ; and fhall for that Purpofe caufe fuch refpective Stamps to be diftributed to the refpective proper Officers of the Cuftoms of all and every the Port and Ports where fuch foreign made Sail Cloth or Canvas fliall be imported or landed; which faid Officers are hereby enjoined and required to rtamp every fuch Piece and Parcel of foreign made Sail Cloth or Canvas, which faid Stamp (hall exprefs or denote the Place or Country from, whence the faid foreign made Cloth or Canvas was imported ; ?.nd the faid Commiffioners inproviding the faid Stamps for the Purpofes aforefa'd fhall take care that they be fo contrived, that the imprefiion thereof may be durable, and fo as the fame may be the leaft liable to be forged or counterfeited ; and

that the faid Stamps lhall or may be altered or renewed from lime to time as his Majefty, his Heirs or
