CAP. XX. An Aft to enable the Magiftrates and Town Council of the Burgh of Lanark, to repair and maintain their Bridge over the River Clyd at Clydfhom,- in the Shire of Lanark. P R. c T T 7 H E R E A S by an Ad pafled in the Parliament of Scotland the thirtieth Day of June in the Year W of our Lord one thoufand feven hundred and three, intituled, An All in Favours of the Burgh of ' Lanark, reciting that the Burgh of Lanark had been at a vaft Expence in building a Bridge over the Ri-
- ver Clyd, and that by reafon of the great Repair, and the violent current of the Water, it would require
- frequent Reparations, which the Magiftrates of the faid Burgh were unable to do, it was enacted, That
- for enabling the faid Magiftrates to maintain the faid Bridge, the feveral Tolls therein mentioned
' mould be granted to the Magiftrates of the faid Burgh for the Space of nineteen Years : And where-
- as the faid Bridge hath been, and ftill is, of fo great Ufe and Service to the nighbouring Country in ge-
c neral, that notwithstanding the Term granted by the faid Act expired in the Year one thoufand feven. ' hundred and twenty-two, yet the faid Tolls have been voluntarily paid, till of late that fome Perfons
- have refufed to pay the fame : And whereas the annual Expence of keeping the faid Bridge in Repair
- exceeds the yearly Income of the Tolls granted by the faid Act, and the maintaining and keeping in
4 Repair the faid Bridge will be attended with a conftant Charge and Expence to the faid Town : And
- whereas the Magiftrates of the faid Burgh of Lanark are unable to repair and fupport the fame (their
- Debts being already fo large and the Circumftances of the Community fo low) unlefs the faid former
- Act be revived, and the Term and Tolls thereby granted continued and enlarged ;' May it therefore
pleafe your moft Excellent Majefty, upon the humble Petition of the Magiftrates and Town Council of the faid Burgh of Lanark, that it may be enacted, csV. This Act to be in Force for 31 Years. CAP. XXI. An Act for making the Chapel in the Hamlet of Abthorpe and Foxcoate, in the Parifti of Towcejler, in the County of Northampton, a Parifh Church, and for appointing a District or Parifh thereto, and for enabling the Mafter of the Free Grammar School within the faid Hamlet of Abthorpe and Foxcoate* to be Vicar of the faid Parifti Church. PR. CAP. XXII. An Act for the better regulating the Nightly Watch and Bedels within the City of London, and Liberties thereof; and for making more effectual the Laws now in Being, for Paving and Cleanfing the Streets and Sewers in and about the faid City.
