And, for the Relief of any Perfon or Perfons, who through Neglect or Inadvertency have omit- ed to pay the feveral Rates and Duties, or any Part thereof, upon Monies given, paid, contracted or agreed for, with or in relation to any Clerk, Apprentice or Servant, which hath been put or placed to or with any Mafter or Miftrcfs to learn any Profeffion, Trade or Employment, and to have fuch Indentures or other Writings, which fhall contain the Covenants, Articles, Contracts or Agreements relating to the Service of fuch Clerk, Apprentice or Servant, flamped within the 7'imes by the feveral Acts of Parliament for thofe Purpoics refpectively limited, or who have alfo in like Manner omitted to infert and write in Words at Length in fuch Indentures or other Writings as aforefaid, the full Sum or Sums of Money, or any Part thereof received, or in any wife directly or indirectly given, paid, agreed or contracted for, with or in relation to every fuch Clerk, Appren- tice or Servant as aforefaid ; Be it enacted by the Authority aforefaid. CAP. XXVIII. An Aft to explain and amend fo much of an Act made in the twelfth Year of the Reign of Queen Anne, intituled, An Aft for reducing the Laws relating to Rogues, Vagabonds, Jiurdy Beggars and Vagrants into one Atl of Parliament ; and for the more effeklual punifoing fuch Rogues, Vagabonds, Jiurdy Beggars and Vagrants, and fending them whither they ought to be fent, as relates to common Players of Interludes. WHEREAS by an A& of Parliament made in the twelfth Year of the Reign of her late Ma- m-^M* jefty Queen Anne, intituled, An Ac! for reducing the Law: relating to Rogues, Vagabonds, Jiurdy^' ' Beggars and Vagrants into one Ad of Parliament ; and for the more effectual puniflnng fuch Rogues, Vaga- ' bonds, Jiurdy Beggars and Vagrants, and fending them whither they ought to bejent, it was enacted, That ' all Perfons pretending themfelves to be Patent Gatherers or Collectors for Prifons, Gaols or Hofpi- ' ta's, and wandering abroad for that Purpofe, all Fencers, Bearwards, Common Players of Interludes, ' and other Perfons therein named and expreffed, (hall be deemed Rogues and Vagabonds: And whereas ' fome Doubts have arifen concerning fo much of the faid Act as relates to Common Players of Intcr- ' lades:' Now for explaining and amending the fame, be it declared and enacted by the King's moil: Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That from and Perfonsafling after the twenty-fourth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred arid thirty-feven, every Perfon who any S piace»tiere fhall, for Hire, Gain or Reward, act, reprefent or perform, or caufe to be acted, reprefented or per- they have not a formed any Interlude, Tragedy, Comedy, Opera, Play, Farce or other Entertainment of the Stage, Settlement, or or any Part or Parts therein, in cafe fuch Perfon (hall not have any legal Settlement in the Place where ri'ty^&c. °" the fame fhall be acted, reprefented or performed without Authority by virtue of Letters Patent from his Majefty, his Heirs, Succeffors or Predeceffors, or without Licence fiom the Lord Chamberlain of his Majefty's Houfhold for the time being, fhall be deemed to be a Rogue and a Vagabond within the to be deemed Intent and Meaning of the faid recited Act, and (hall be liable and fubject to all fuch Penalties and Pu- Vj g» b ° nds > rudiments, and by fuch Methods of Conviction, as are inflicted on or appointed by the faid Act. for the Puniihment of Rogues and Vagabonds who fhall be found wandering, begging and mifordering themfelves, within the Intent and Meaning of the faid recited Act.

II. And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That if any Perfon having or not having

a legal Settlement as aforefaid fhall, without fuch Authority or Licence as aforefaid, act, reprefent or perform, or caufe to be acted, reprefented or performed, for Hire, Gain or Reward, any Interlude, Tragedy, Comedy, Opera, Play, Farce or other Entertainment of the Stage, or any Part or Parts therein, every fuch Perlon (hall for every fuch Offence forfeit the Sum of fifty Pounds ; and in cafe and forfeit- 50I. the faid Sum of fifty Pounds fhall be paid, levied or recovered, fuch Offender fhall not for the fame Offence fuffer any of the Pains or Penalties inflicted by the faid recited Act.
