C. 9. 5S9 Jour, and for anfwering other your Majefty's weighty and important Occafions, and with an humble and thankful Acknowledgment of your Majefty's favourable and tender Regard of us your faithful Com- mons, have cheerfully and uhanimoufly given and granted unto your Majefty an Aid or Ainftance 10 be raifed and levied upon all Wines and Vinegar to be imported into Great Britain, according to fuch Rated, and in fuch Manner and Form as is herein mentioned; and we do mod humbly befeech your Majefty that it may be enafted; and be it enafted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament aflembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That from and after the twenty-fifth Day of March one thoufand feven An Aid pmtti hundred and forty-five, over and above all Subfidies of Tonnage and Poundage, and all other Subfidies, whitMajeftyoy additional Duties and Impositions whatfoever, due or payable for all Wines and Vinegar imported into a ; w,t|< "> a 'Du- Great Britain, by any Aft or Acts of Parliament now in Force, there (hall be raifed, levied, collected""' and paid unto his Majefty, his Heirs and Succeflbrs (before landing thereof) the additional Impofitions, Rates or Duties following, without any Difcount or Deduction inwards, or Drawback on Re-exporta- tion afterwards; that is to fay, For every Ton of French Wine and French Vinegar, which (hall be im- on every Ton ported into this Kingdom, the Sum of eight Pounds, and fo after that Rate for any greater or lefTer Quan- of fli nch ^'j[! tity ; and alfo for every Ton of all other Wines and Vinegar imported into this Kingdom, the Sum of a " "'^Y'"" four Pounds, and fo after that Rate for any greater or lefler Quantity; the fame to be raifed, levied, col- aud Vmecai- IV lefted, paid and recovered in fuch Manner and Form, and by fuch Ways, Means and Methods, and un- der fuch Penalties and Forfeitures (except as to Difcounts and Drawbacks aforefaid) as are mentioned and expreffed in the Aft of Parliament made and paffed in the firft Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King James the Second, intituled, An AB for granting his Majejiy an Impofition upon all Wines and Vinegar to be raifei as by imported between the twenty-fourth Day of June, one thoufand fix hundred and eighty-Jive and the twenty-fourth ' J ac - a ' c -3" Day of June one thoufand fix hundred and ninety-three, or in any other Aft or Acts of Parliament, by which the faid Impofitions, Rates and Duties upon all Wines and Vinegar imported were continued and made perpetual, and all Powers, Penalties, Forfeitures, Provifions, Articles and Claufes therein contained (not any ways altered by this Aft) fhall continue in full Force and Effeft during the Continuance of the faid Impofitions, Rates and Duties hereby granted, and fhall be applied, praftifed and executed for the raifing, levying, collefting, fecuring, anfwering and paying the faid Impofitions, Rates and Duties, according to the true Intent and Meaning of this Aft, as fully and efteftually, to all Intents and Purpofes, as if the faid Claufes, Matters and Things had been again repeated and re-enacted in the Body of this prefent Aft ; any Law, Cuftom or Ufage to the contrary in any wife notwithftanding. II. Provided always, That nothing in this Aft contained fhall extend, or be conftrued to extend, to Unmerchantable Jay any further Duties upon Wines damaged, corrupt or unmerchantable, and for which the Merchants wines exempt ; or Importers thereof fhall refufe to pay or fecure the Duties, and which by an Aft paffed in the twelfth ■ Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King George the firft, intituled, An Ail for the Improvement of his and t0 tedifpo- Majefty's Revenues of Cuftoms, Excife and Inland Duties, are on fuch Refufal direfted to be received into £ dot: asby ' a the Cuftody of proper Officers of the Cuftoms, to be publickly fold, in order to be diftilled into Brandy, e0 " *" c 1 or to be made into Vinegar. III. And it is hereby enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That the faid Impofitions, Rates and Duties Thefe Duties to ' by this Aft granted, fhall from Time to Time, be under the Management and Direftion of the refpeftive be managed by . And be it further enafted by the Authority aforefaid, That all and every the Annuities which by Annuities for a this Aft fhall be granted arret made payable, in refpeft of the principal Sum of two millions, to be raifed Pr'^'P- 1 ' of in fuch Manner and Form as is herein after direfted, until Redemption thereof by Parliament, as alio unable out of the feveral and refpeftive other Annuities by this Aft made payable at the faid Receipt of His Majefty's thefe Duties. Exchequer, during the Lives of the feveral Contributors to the Lottery herein after mentioned, or the Lives of their refpeftive Nominees, fhall be charged and chargeable upon, and payable out of the faid Rates, Duties and Impofitions, by this Aft granted to his Majefty ; and the faid Rates, Duties, and Im- pofitibns fhall be and are hereby appropriated for thofe Purpofes accordingly. VI.
