' geons belonging to the fame Corporation being now become a numerous and conliderable Body, and ' finding their Union with the Barbers inconvenient in many Refpects, and in no Degree conducive to the ' Progrefs or Improvement of the Art of Surgery ; and that a Separation of the Corporation of Barbers 1 and Surgeons, and making two Corporations of the prefent united Company of Barbers and Surgeons, ' will contribute much to the Improvement of Surgery, and thereby become a Matter of publick Utility,

May it therefore p'.eafe your moft Excellent Majefty, that it may be enacted ; and be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advife and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Tempo- Union or Bar- r al, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That the faid hers and Sur- Union and Incorporation of the Barbers and Surgeons of London, made and effected by the faid recited dXived af°"r d ° n A<9: of the thirty-fecond Year of King Henry the Eighth, fhall from and after the twenty-fourth Day of Jane 24,1745. And it is hereby further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That it fhall and may be lawful to may chuoft Of- anc ] f or the faid Company or Corporation herein before eftablifhed and incorporated, from time to time, ficeiSi in the Manner herein after mentioned, to elect, choofe, and appoint one principal Mailer or Governor, two other Governors or Wardens, ten Examiners of Surgeons, and twenty-one Perfons to be the Court of Affiftants of the faid Company or Corporation, to be refpectively qualified and admitted in fuch Man- ner, and to continue in the faid Offices refpectively, for fuch Time and Times refpectively, as by the By-laws, Rules, Ordinances, and Conftitutions of the faid Company or Corporation, fhall be, from time to time, ordered, directed, provided and appointed. And it is hereby further enacted, That it fhall and may be lawful to and for the Mafter and Go- Mafier anct Go- vern ors of the faid Company or Corporation for the Time being, or any two of them, with nine or more Affiftams^ma 9 of the Members of the faid Court of Affiftants of the fame Company for the Time being, when and as hold Courts"- ^ often as to two of the faid Mafter and Governors fhall feem meet, to hold Courts and Affemblies, in or- der to treat and confult about and concerning the Rule, Order, State, and Government of the faid Com- and make By- pany or Corporation herein before eftablifhed and incorporated as aforefaid ; and alfo that it fhall and laws, &c. may be lawful to and for the faid Mafter and Governors and Court of Affiftants fo affembled, or the ma- jor Part of them, to make, ordain, conftitute, eftablifh, ratify, confirm, annul, revoke, or abrogate, from time to time, fuch By-laws, Ordinances, Rules, and Conftitutions, as to them fhall feem requifite, profitable, and convenient for the Regulation, Government, and Advantage of the faid Company or Corporation ; fo as fuch By-laws, Ordinances, Rules, and Conftitutions be examined, approved of, and allowed, as by the Laws and Statutes of this Realm is provided and required. By Laws of the IV. Provided always, and it is hereby enacted and declared, That the feveral By-laws, Ordinances, United Company Rules, and Conftitutions, made and eftablifhed for the Regulation and Government of the faid United relating to Sur- Company or Corporation, fo far as the fame relate to, or concern the Art and Science of Surgery only, geiy continued ; a nd which, on the twenty-third Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and forty-five, fhall be fub- fifting, and in Force, and fhall not be repealed, annulled, or abrogated by virtue of this prefent Act, until repealed by fhall continue and be in Force ; and fhall be exercifed, obferved, and executed by the faid Company of virtue of this Surgeons eftablifhed and incorporated by this Act, until fuch Time and Times refpectively as the fame A &- By-laws, Ordinances, Rules, and Conftitutions fhall refpectively be repealed, annulled, and made void, by virtue and under the Authority of this prefent Act. Names of the V. Provided alfo, and it is hereby further enacted and declared, That John Ranly Efquire, Principal Mafter, Serjeant Surgeon to his Majefty, fhall be, and he is hereby conftituted and appointed Principal Mafter Wardens, or Governor ; and that Mafter Jofeph Sandford and William Chejelden Efquire, two of the prefent War- dens of the faid United Company, fhall be, and they are hereby conftituted and appointed, the two other Governors or Wardens of the Company of Surgeons made, eftablifhed, and incorporated by this Act ; and that they fhall continue in, and hold, enjoy, and exercife the faid Offices refpeclively from the faid . twenty-fourth Day of June, until others fhall be elected and appointed to the faid Offices refpectively, as $xaminers, herein after is mentioned : And alfo that Ambrofe Dickins Efquire, Principal Serjeant Surgeon to his Ma- jefty, William Petty Efquire, John Shipton Efquire, the faid William Chefelden, John Freke, William Pyle, Legard Sparham, James Hickes, and Peter Sainthill, who are the prefent Examiners of Surgeons, together with the faid John Ranby, fhall be, and they are. hereby conftituted and appointed Examiners of Surgeons for the faid Company of Surgeons made, eftablifhed, and incorporated by this Act ; and that they'lhall refpec"tively continue in, and hold, enjoy, and exercife the faid Office of Examiners for and during their natural Lives refpectively, or until they iliall be refpectively removed out of the faid Office, purfuant, and
