And be it further enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That the feveral Directions and Commencement and Provifions in this Act fhall commence and take Effect from and after the twenty-fourth Day of June Continuance of this A<£h one thoufand feven hundred and fixty-fou'r, and fhall continue and be in Force, from the faid twenty-rfourth Day of June, for the Term of twenty-one Years and no longer, CAP. XXVII. An Act for granting for a limited Time, a Liberty to carry Rice from his Majefty's Pro- vinces of South Carolina and Georgia, directly to any ¥ net of America to the Southward of the faid Provinces, fubject to the like Duty as is now paid on the Exportation of Rice from the faid Colonies to Places in Europe fituate to the Southward of Cape Finijierre. HEPvEAS by an Act made in the third and fourth Years of the Reign of her late Ma- Preamble, reciting jefty Queen Anne, intituled, An Ail for granting to her Majefly a further Subjidy on Wines Claufes in Aa 3 &4 I 'Merchandises imported, all Rice of the Growth or Production of the Englijh Plantations in Ann - c - 5< America, Ajia or Africa, is obliged to be imported into England, JVales, or Berwick upon Tweed, or to fome other of the faid Plantations, under fuch Securities and Penalties as other enumerated Goods or Commodities of the Growth, Production or Manufacture of the faid Plantations are fubject to, by an Act made in the twelfth Year of the Reign of the late King Charles the 12 Car, 2. c. 18, Second, intituled, An All for encouraging and encreajing of Shipping and Navigation, or by another Act made in the five and twentieth Year of the Reign of the faid late King, intituled, An A£i for 25 Car. 2. c. 7, the Encouragement of the Greenland and Eastland Trades, and for the better fecuring the Plantation Trade: And whereas an Act was made in the third Year of the Reign of his late Majefty King 3 Geo. 2. c. 2S. George the Second, intituled, An Aii for granting Liberty to carry Pice from his Majefty's Province ^/'Carolina in America, direclly to any_ Part c/*" Europe Southward of Cape Finifterre : And whereas 8 Geo. 2, c. ig, by an"A£t made in the eighth Year of the Reign of his faid Majefty, the Liberty granted by the faid Act of the third Year of his faid Majefty was extended to his Majefty's Province of Georgia in America: And whereas very great Advantages have arifen fro n the Powers given by the laid Acts; and there is great Reafon to apprehend, that not only the Produce of Rice in thofe Parts, but that alfo the Exportation thereof would be greatly increafed for the mutual Benefit of this Kingdom and the faid Provinces, if notwithstanding the Laws relating to Navigation and Trade to and from the Plantations, Liberty or Licence was granted for Ships built in Great Britain, or in any of his Majefty's Colonies in America, to load Rice in either of the faid Provinces, and to carry the fame directly to any Part of America to the Southward of the faid Provinces of Carolina or Georgia, without bringing the fame firft to Great Britain, as the Laws now require; whereby 'the fame will arrive at fuch Places, in a feafonable Condition, for the Confumption thereof: For this End and for providing proper Securities for your Majefty's Duties, and for preventing any Prejudice or Damage to this Nation which might happen thereby from any unlawful Commerce between the Plantations and any other foreign Countries, as to any other enumerated Commodi- ties or otherwife,' May it therefore pleafe your molt Excellent Majefty that it may be enacted ; and be it enacted by the King's molt Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That the faid Act, palled in the third and fourth Years of the Reign of Act 3 & 4.
