Description

The Spirella thigh reducer is a band of double-covered rubber strands, incorporated in a webbing of the best mercerized Sea Island cotton, specially woven to give the greatest elastic strength in continued wear, perfect ventilation, and unimpaired circulation. It is designed to be worn under the skirt of the corset to control excessive flesh on the upper limb. This band, by firm but gentle, intermittent pressure, will reduce the thighs to proper proportions. Illustrated on opposite page.

The webbing is to be stitched to the under side of the corset skirt, at the back and front edges, and fastens in the center front with hooks and eyes. It is made in the Standard in 7 and 9 inch widths in white or flesh tint. For prices, see price list.

Measurements

To determine the size of the thigh reducer the measurement should be taken around the largest part of the thighs, where it is intended that the center of the reducer should rest. A deduction of approximately three inches from the actual measurement should be made for reducers to be worn in laced-in-front corsets, and approximately five inches for reducers to be worn with back-laced corsets—the extra two inches being deducted to allow for lace spacing.

Adjustment

The reducer is placed on the figure where the excessive flesh requires the greatest compression and before the corset is adjusted. After the reducer is in position, adjust the corset over it. The skirt of the corset should be long enough to cover the reducing band. Pin the band securely to the skirt of the corset, on either side of the lacers in back-laced garments, or in the center of the back in laced—in—front garments. Then pin the band to the front edges of the corset skirt. Remove the band and corset and stitch the band to the corset skirt, with a double row of stitching, where it is pinned. If the customer is embarassed by the extreme length of the reducer in the back, remind her that it is pliable and that it can be turned up with the skirt of the corset as easily as any undergarment.

One-half set of hose supporters should be worn with the thigh reducer, attached to the lower edge of the band at the center of the side of the thigh.
