  1. பசித்த பறையனும் குளித்த சைவனும் சாப்பிடாது இரார்.
    A hungry pariah and a saiva that has bathed, must have eaten first.

  2. பசித்தவன் தின்னாததும் இல்லை. பகைத்தவன் சொல்லாததும் இல்லை.
    There is nothing edible which the hungry will not eat, there is no reproach which the malevolent has not uttered.

  3. பசித்தவன் மேல் நம்பிக்கை வைக்கலாமா?
    Can confidence be placed in a hungry person?

  4. பசித்த செட்டி பாக்குத் தின்றானாம்.
    It is said that a hungry merchant chewed betel and arica-nut.

  5. பசித்தவன் பயற்றை விதைக்கட்டும்.
    Let the hungry sow peas.

  6. பசித்தவன் பழம் கணக்கைப் பார்ப்பதுபோல்.
    As a hungry man looks at his old accounts.

  7. பசித்தார் பொழுதும் போம் பாலுடன் அன்னம் புசித்தார் பொழுதும் போம்.
    The sun goes down on the hungry, and also on those who eat their rice and milk.

  8. பசியாமல் மருந்து கொடுக்கிறேன் பழையது இருந்தால் போடு என்பதுபோல.
    Like saying, put before me some old rice if there be any, and I will give you medicine that will prevent your hungering again.

  9. பசி ருசி அறியுமா நித்திரை சுகம் அறியுமா?
    Does hunger appreciate flavours, or sleep enjoyment?

  10. பசி ருசி அறியாது, நித்திரை சுகம் அறியாது.
    Hunger is ignorant of flavours, sleep is ignorant of enjoyment.

  11. பசி வந்திடில் பத்தும் பறந்துபோம்.
    Hunger dissipates the ten.
    The ten are the five senses and their organs.
