Sheppard, Captain Thomas Dawson Less, M.V.O. (1906); s. of Colonel Thomas Dawson Sheppard of ‘Grange’, Isle of Wight; b. 1868; entered R.N. 1879; served on “H.M.S. Renown” during the Indian tour of H.M. Emperor George V and Empress Mary as Prince and Princess of Wales, 1905-06. Address: Elm Cottage, Shiplake-on-Thames.

(1910) I.C.S., Commissioner, Southern Division, Bombay, since 1911; M.L.C., Bombay, since 1913; 2nd s. of late John Edward Sheppard of Grasendale; educ: Hereford Cathedral School and New College, Oxford; joined service, 1884; First Assistant Collector, Bombay, 1886; served in Canara, Belgaum, Dharwar and Poona; became Political Agent of Berar, 1899-1900; and again from 1904-05; won a first class K-I-H Medal, 1900; Municipal Commissioner, Bombay, 1901-02; and again from 1905-10; m. Shereahmed Khan Sardar, C.I.E., Punjab; claims the same descent as the Amir of Afghanistan; b. at Kabul, 1857; received a course of training in Arabic, Mathematics, Surveying, and learnt English privately; taken on the civil political staff and was made Military Assistant Governor of Kabul; made Assistant Political Officer and awarded a medal for services in the Afghan War, 1880; appointed to the Punjab Provincial Civil Service; Political Attache on the Russo-Afghan Frontier; granted an annual pension of 1,000 rupees for life. Sher Ali, Khan Bahadur, (1908, retired Deputy Superintendent of Police; b. 1846; joined the Police when it was first organised 1862; became Inspector; the first to be made Deputy Superintendent after the creation of that grade; Special duty in connection with operations against the notorious outlaw, Tantia Bhil; awarded the King’s Police medal, 1910.
