returned to India and commenced practice in the Calcutta High Court; appointing Standing Council to the Government of India, 1903; Advocate-General, Bengal, 1907; appeared in a sensational sedition case on behalf of the Crown; first Indian Member, Executive Council of the Governor-General of India, 1908; resigned, 1911; resumed practice in the Calcutta High Court; contributed Rs. 10,000 to the Bengal Volunteer Ambulance Corps; 1915: contributed Rs. 5,000 to the Gokhale Memorial Fund, 1915. Sinnett, Alfred Percy; b. 1840; s. of late E. W. Sinnett, Journalist; educ: London University School; Assistant Sub-Editor of the Globe, 1859; Sub-Editor and Leaderwriter for various London papers; Editor of the Hong-Kong Daily Press, 1865; went back to London, 1868; Leaderwriter on Standard; came out to India as Editor of the Pioneer, Allahabad, 1872; Vice President, London branch of the Theosophic Society. Publications: two novels founded on Occult Ideas on Karma, &c. Address: 59, Jermyn Street, S.W. Club: Junior Carlton.

Sirohi, H.H. Maharao Sir Kesrisingh Bahadur, K.C.S.I. (1895), and G.C.I.E. (1901); b. 1857; Area of the State, 1,964 sq. miles; population, over lakh and fifty thousand. Address: Sirohi, Rajputana.

Sissaindi, Raja of; Chendra Shekar; b. 1830; succeeded to title, 1873; belongs to a respectable Tiwari Brahmin family of Daman, Misrakhera; a.s. of Raja Kashi Prasad; the estate comprises 28 villages and 5 pattas in Lucknow, 22 villages and 4 pattas in Unao and one village in Rae Bareilly; title of Raja recognised by the British Government, 1877. Address: Sissandi, Lucknow, U.P., India.

Sitamau, Raja of H.H. Raja Ram Singh; b. 1880; s. of Tankur Sahib Dalel Singhjee; descended from the Rather House of Kachi Baroda; educ: Daly College, Indore; Sanskrit poet; s. by adoption in default of direct issue, 1900; area of the State, 350, sq. miles; population, 23,879; entitled to a salute of 11 guns. Publications: two books of poetry, and one on science. Recreations: Cricket, Riding. Address: Sitamau, Western Malwa, Central India.

Sitaram, Rai Sahib (1911), Superintendent, Government Press, Lahore; s. of late Lala Narain Dass; g.s. of Lala Ganpat Rai, at one time in charge of Military buildings in Lahore Cantonment after its annexation by the British; b. 1858; elected Governor of the Diamond Jubilee Hindu Technical Institute, Life Member, Punjab Library Committee.
