for a distance or 800 yards or less, and in the signs shown in diagrams 724, 728.1, 728.2, 729, 730 to 732.1, 733, 734 3. 749, 759, 841, 842.2 and 842.4 the distance may be omitted,

(k) in the signs shown in diagrams 713, 724, 723, 723.2, 728.3, 732, 732.4, 733, 734,1, 734.3. 734.5 to 734.8, 735, 736.1, 737.1, 739, 739.1 to 739.3, 741, 742.1, 742.3, 749, 751, 753, 753.1, 755.1, 756.1, 759, 841.1, 842.1, 842.3, 903.1 and 904.1 the direction in which they point shall be reversed;

(l) in the signs shown in diagrams 703.1 to 705.1, 708 to 711.1, 712.1, 718, 723 and 723.1, where a junction with a motorway is to be indicated, the approximate panel or panels shall be blue with a white legend and the route number of the motorway shown in characters of the proportion and form shown in Parts I, II and III of Schedule 7; in the signs shown in diagrams 718 to 723 and 723.1 where a non—primary route joins a primary route the primary route number shall he shown in yellow on a each panel; and without prejudice to the foregoing provisions or this sub-paragraph, whenever a motorway route number is indicated on at sign shown in any of the diagrams 701 to 715, 713 to 724.2 and 728, that number shall be shown in white on a blue panel;

(m) in the signs shown in diagrams 701 to 716, 718 to 725, 727 to 733.1, 734.3. 737.1, 739, 741 to 744.1, 747 to 759, 818.1, 818.2, 838.1, 841 to 842, 903.1 to 911 and 915 to 916.1 the route numbers, place names, route symbols, junction numbers and distances (other than the mileages in diagrams 702, 702.1, 905, 906, 906.2, 908.1 and 908.2) shall, subject to the preceding provisions or this paragraph, be varied, where appropriate and the words "Other routes" or as the case may be, "Ring road" may be substituted for the place name, having regard to the place where any such sign is erected:

(n) in the signs shown in diagrams 728 to 732.1, there may be substituted for, or added to the place name the words "Tourist information", "Toilets", "Ladies toilet", "Mens toilet", "Airport", "Station", "Bus Station", "Coach Station", "Country park" or "Public Telephone", or any of the following symbols, that is to say, the aircraft shown in diagram 733, the white on red symbol indicating British Railways and shown in diagram 734.1, the red circle and bar on white indicating London Transport and shown in diagram 734.4, the parking symbol shown in diagram 734.8, the telephone handset shown in diagram 734.6, the disabled person symbol shown in diagram 736.1, the building shown in diagram 747, the building shown in diagram 748, the tent and caravan symbol shown in diagram 750, the youth hostel symbol shown in diagram 752, the picnic site symbol shown in diagram 752.1, the black on white letter "i" shown in diagram 758, or the white on blue letter "H" shown in diagram 827;

(o) without prejudice to the next following paragraph, the white lorry symbol shown in diagram 727.2 may be incorporated on a black panel in the signs shown in diagrams 718 to 724.1, 728.1, 728.2 and 729 to 732.1 when those signs are placed on or near a read other than a motorway or a primary route to indicate that the route with which the symbol is associated on the sign is a route suitable for goods vehicles.

(p) the aircraft symbol shown in diagram 733 either with or without the name or an airport may be substituted for or added to, a place name shown on any of the signs shown in diagrams 701 to 714, 718 to 724.1 and 903.1 to 910.1 to indicate the site of an airport
