110 STAT. 4148 PUBLIC LAW 104-333 —NOV. 12, 1996 (C) an assessment of the feasibility, benefits, and problems associated with activities to prevent further habitat loss and to restore habitat through reintroduction or establishment of appropriate native plant species. (3) TRANSMITTAL.— Not later than 3 years after the date on which funds are made available to carry out this section, the Secretary of the Interior shall transmit the study under paragraph (1) to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate and to the Committee on Resources of the House of Representatives. (e) AUTHORIZATION OF APPROPRIATIONS.— There is authorized to be appropriated to carry out this section a total of $7,500,000 for the 10 fiscal years beginning after the date of enactment of this Act. SEC. 402. OLD SPANISH TRAIL. Section 5(c) of the National Trails System Act (16 U.S.C. 1244(c)) is amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph: "( ) The Old Spanish Trail, beginning in Santa Fe, New Mexico, proceeding through Colorado and Utah, and ending in Los Angeles, California, and the Northern Branch of the Old Spanish Trail, beginning near Espanola, New Mexico, proceeding through Colorado, and ending near Crescent Junction, Utah.". SEC. 403. GREAT WESTERN SCENIC TRAIL. Section 5(c) of the National Trails System Act (16 U.S.C. 1244(c)) is amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph: "( ) The Great Western Scenic Trail, a system of trails to accommodate a variety of travel users in a corridor of approximately 3,100 miles in length extending from the Arizona-Mexico border to the Idaho-Montana-Canada border, following the approximate route depicted on the map identified as 'Great Western Trail Corridor, 1988', which shall be on file and available for public inspection in the Office of the Chief of the Forest Service, United States Department of Agriculture. The trail study shall be conducted by the Secretary of Agriculture, in consultation with the Secretary of the Interior, in accordance with subsection (b) and shall include— "(A) the current status of land ownership and current and potential use along the designated route; "(B) the estimated cost of acquisition of lands or interests in lands, if any; and "(C) an examination of the appropriateness of motorized trail use along the trail.". SEC. 404. HANFORD REACH PRESERVATION. Section 2 of Public Law 100-605 is amended as follows: (1) By striking "INTEREVT in the section heading. (2) By striking "For a period of eight years after" and inserting "After" in subsection (a). (3) By striking in subsection (b) "During the eight year interim protection period, provided by this section, all" and inserting "All".
