ALLOCATION OF EQUIPMENT AUTHORIZED BY THIS TITLE TO UNITS DEPLOYED, OR TO BE DEPLOYED, TO OPER ATION IRAQI FREEDOM OR OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. In allocating equipment acquired using funds authorized to be appropriated by this title to operational units deployed, or sched uled to be deployed, to Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom, the Secretary of Defense shall ensure that the allocation is made without regard to the status of the units as active, Guard, or reserve component units. SEC. 143. REPORT ON OPTIONS FOR ACQUISITION OF PRECISION GUIDED MUNITIONS. (a) REQUIREMENT FOR REPORT.—Not later than March 1, 2005, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the congressional defense committees a report on options for the acquisition of precision guided munitions. (b) CONTENT OF REPORT.—The report shall include the fol lowing: (1) A list of the precision guided munitions in the inventory of the Department of Defense. (2) For each such munition— (A) the inventory level as of the most recent date that it is feasible to specify when the report is prepared; (B) the inventory objective that is necessary to execute the current National Military Strategy prescribed by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; (C) the year in which that inventory objective would be expected to be achieved— (i) if the munition were procured at the minimum sustained production rate; (ii) if the munition were procured at the most economic production rate; and (iii) if the munition were procured at the maximum production rate; and (D) the procurement cost for each munition (in constant fiscal year 2004 dollars) at each of the production rates specified in subparagraph (C) for each year in the future years defense program.
