Now, therefore, be it Resolv e dbyth e H o u seo f Re pr ese n t a t i ves ( the S enate c oncur - rin g),T hat Congress —( 1 ) celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Mackinac I sland State Park Commission ’ s Historical Preservation and Museum Program; and ( 2 ) respectfully re q uests the Clerk of the House of R ep- resentatives to transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to the Mackinac Island State Park Commission as evidence of the Commission successfully fulfilling its mission to protect, preserve, and present the historical and natural wonders of Mackinac Island . SE E D S OFP E AC E —15TH A N N IV E R SAR Y RECO G NITION Whereas Seeds of Peace, founded by the late John Wallach, is a program that brings together young people and educators from regions of conflict to study and learn about coexistence and con- flict resolution; Whereas these young people study and learn primarily at an inter- national conflict resolution summer camp operated by Seeds of Peace in O tisfield, Maine, and also through its regional programs such as the facilitation training course in the Middle E ast, the homestay programs in South Asia, and international regional conferences; Whereas the first international conflict resolution camp welcomed Israeli, Palestinian, Jordanian, and Egyptian youths in the summer of 199 3 , and has since expanded to involve youths from other regions of conflict, including from G reece, Turkey and divided Cyprus, the B alkans, India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan; Whereas Seeds of Peace utilizes the summer camp to initiate dia- logue between the youths of the U nited States and the youths from various conflict regions to dispel hatred and create religious and cultural understanding; Whereas Seeds of Peace regional programs have trained hundreds of educators to teach peaceful conflict resolutions techniques in their classrooms, positively influencing thousands of students; Whereas Seeds of Peace works to dispel fear, mistrust, and pre j u- dice, which among others are root causes of violence and conflict, and to build a new generation of leaders who are committed to achieving peace; June18,20 08 [H.Co n.
