(1) B y amendin g s ubp aragraph (C) to read as follows: ‘ ‘(C) I n addition to the areas otherwise designated under this paragraph , the following routes and land compo - nents by which the Chero k ee Nation was remo v ed to O kla- homa are components of the Trail of Tears National H is- toric Trail, as generally described in the environmentally preferred alternative of the November 2 0 0 7F easibility Study Amendment and E nvironmental Assessment for Trail of Tears National Historic Trail: ‘‘(i) The Benge and Bell routes. ‘‘(ii) The land components of the designated water routes in Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Ten- nessee. ‘‘(iii) The routes from the collection forts in Ala- bama, G eorgia, North Carolina, and Tennessee to the emigration depots. ‘‘(iv) The related campgrounds located along the routes and land components described in clauses (i) through (iii). ’ ’. (2) In subparagraph ( D ) — (A) by striking the first sentence

and (B) by adding at the end the following: ‘‘No lands or interests in lands outside the e x terior boundaries of any federally administered area may be ac q uired by the Federal Government for the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail except with the consent of the owner thereof.’’. (a) A UTHORI T Y TOA CQ UIR ELAND FRO MW I L LIN G SELLER SF OR CERTAIN TRAILS.— (1) OREGON NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAIL.—Section 5(a)( 3 )of the National Trails System Act (16 U.S.C. 1244(a)(3)) is amended by adding at the end the following: ‘‘No land or interest in land outside the exterior boundaries of any federally administered area may be acquired by the Federal Government for the trail except with the consent of the owner of the land or interest in land. The authority of the Federal Government to acquire fee title under this paragraph shall be limited to an average of not more than 1⁄4 mile on either side of the trail.’’. (2) M ORMON P IONEER NATIONAL HISTORIC TRAIL.—Section 5(a)(4) of the National Trails System Act (16 U.S.C. 1244(a)(4)) is amended by adding at the end the following: ‘‘No land or interest in land outside the exterior boundaries of any federally administered area may be acquired by the Federal Government for the trail except with the consent of the owner of the land or interest in land.
