Eg; Be it enacted by the Senate and Muse of Representatives of the United i States of America in Congress assembled, That in lieu of any bonds au- Tmasm~y notgg thm-ized to be issued by the first section of the act entitled "An act to may be iSS¤€d i¤ provide ways and means for the support of the government," approved hw °{ b°°d‘s' June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and sixty-four, that may remain unsold at the date of this act, the Secretary of the Treasury may issue, under ` the authority of said act, treasury notes of the description and character authorized by the second section of said act: Provided, That the whole amount of bonds authorized as aforesaid, and treasury notes issued and B<>¤dS Md to be issued in lieu thereof, shall not exceed the sum of four hundred €§;Qi;Q88g%§’560 millions of dollars; and suoh treasury notes may be disposed of for law- how digposéd ful money, or for any other treasury notes or certificates of indebtedness of; or certificates of deposit issued under any previous act of congress ; and gxgmpt from such notes shall be exempt from taxation by or under state or municipal *¤X¤*i<>¤· authorit .
