OFFICE OF THE SEQRETABY: For temporary typewriters and ste- Sefgb“;aP°¥*;',{’mc°‘°m¤ nographers in the Department of State, to be selected by the Secretary, ry ' two thousand dollars, to be immediately available. _ PARIS Ex1>0s11*1oN: The President, by and with the advice and con- §’,j;}°:*’j¥{'{$*"°“· · sent of the Senate, shall appoint a commissioner-general to represent c¤mi¤gLm¤é·.ge¤. the United States at the exposition to be held in Paris, France, com- °""*‘1“""“· °°°· mencin g April fifteenth and closing November fifth, nineteen hundred, and, under the general direction of the President to make all needful rules and regulations in reference to the contributions from the United States, subject to the approval of the President, and to control the ~ expenditures incident to and necessary for the proper installation and exhibit thereof; and the President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall also appoint an assistant commissioner-general, ,A¤¤i¤¢¤¤t wmmiswho shall assist and act under the direction of the commissioner- 2i°Zi1°r`g°”°r°l‘d°"°°’ general, and shall perform the duties of the commissioner—genera1in case of his death, disability, or temporary absence; and a secretary, m§¤*=¤‘¤*·¤¤’¥· ·i¤¤i¤¤. ‘ who shall act as disbursing agent and shall perform such duties as may. be assigned to him by the commissioner-general, shall render his accounts quarterly to the proper accounting officers of the Treasury, and shall give bond in such sum as the Secretary of the Treasury may require. The President, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall also appoint twelve commissioners, who shall be subject ,,,g"°I'°°°““’“{°“’°“’ to the direction and control of the commissioner-general and perform ‘ from time to time such service as he shall require. The commissioner-_ general shall employ such number of experts as may be needed, hav- Experts ing special attainments in regard to the subjects of the group or groups in said exposition to which they may be assigned, respectively, and he may employ from time to time such other experts as he may deem necessary in the preparation and installation of such exhibits. The commissioner-general shall be paid a salary of eight thousand S*¤¤¤¤¤· dollars per annum; the assistant commissioner-general a salary of six thousand dollars per annum; and the secretary a salary of four thousand five hundred dollars per annum; which said sums shall bein lieu of all personal expenses other than actual traveling expenses while engaged in exposition work; and the terms of service of the commissioner-general, assistant commissioner-general, and secretary shall not exceed three years. The commissioners herein provided for shall serve T·>¤¤¤ vf wrvicvduring the entire calendar year nineteen hundred, and they shall be _ paid for such service three thousand dollars each, which payments shall bein full for all compensation and personal and traveling expenses. The necessary expenses herein authorized, and expenses for the proper Limit <>f ¤¤1>¤¤¤¤¤- installation and care of exhibits, together with all other expenses that may be authorized by the commissioner-general incident to the participation of the United States in said exposition, are hereby limited to the sum of not exceeding six hundred and fifty thousand dollars, including not exceeding eighty-five thousand dollars for clerk hire in the United States and in Paris. The Secretary of Agriculture is hereby _$sri¤¤1¤¤¤¤¤ ¢¤· authorized to prepare suitable exhibits of agricultural products of the h` m' States and Territories of the United States, including those mentioned in groups seven, eight, and ten of the plan of said exposition, and shall exhibit the same under the direction and control of the commissioner—genera1, the total expenses of the said exhibits not to exceed in the aggregate seventy-five thousand dollars, to be paid out of the aforesaid sum of six hundred and nfty thousand dollars; and reports —¤>1><>r¤¤- respecting such exhibits, printed in the English, French, and German
