CHAP. 250.-An Act To legalize and maintain the iron bridge across Pearl River Apu, 21,190,, at Rockport, Mississippi. ---— Whereas the boards of suplervisors of Copiah and Simpson coun- Preamble. ` ties, Mississippi, did, in eig teen hundred and ninety-eight, jointly contract for an iron bridge to be built across Pearl River, at Rockport, Mississippi, believing that said stream at this point was practically nonnavigable; that a terwards an injunction was sued out b the Government, restraining contractors, which, bein heard before Jyiid e H. C. Niles, of the district Federal court at Jackson, Mississippi, Ee decided that the part of Pearl River from Rockport to Jackson was a nonnavigable stream and dissolved the injunction; that an iron bridge was built in accordance with said contract and opened for travel in August, eighteen hundred and ninety-nine, without a draw; that in January, nlneteen hundred, an appeal was taken by the Government to the nited States circuit court and is now pending; and Whereas said boards of supervisors are des1rous of complying with their obligation with the- bri ge company and giving the citizens of said count1es the benefit of said bridge, which is of great public utility: Therefore, Be it enacted by the Senate and Ease of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the bridge aforesaid be, nudge moss rem and the same is hereby, legalized and maintained as constructed by §§f1_,§’sF,,u1§§§}‘p°"· said counties for the use of the general public. ` SEo. 2. That Congress reserves the right to alter, amend, or repeal Am¤¤d¤¤¤¤*· this Act at pleasure. . Received by the President, April 10, 1900.
