VVHEREAS, it is provided bv section twenty-four of the Act of mG“¤Ni$<;*°S* R0- Congress, approved March third, eighteen hundred and ninety-one, 1>i·%¤¤ib1eix` entitled, “An act to repeal timber-culture laws, and for other pur- V°L26’ "‘n°3‘ poses ”, “That the President of the United States may, from time to time, set apart and reserve, in any State or Territory having public land bearing forests, in any part of the public lands wholly or in part covered with timber or undergrowth, whether of commercial value or not, as public reservations, and the President shall, by public proclainatioipéleclare the establishment of such reservations and the limits thereo ; And whereas, it is further provided by the Act of Congress. V°l·3°·¥’·36· approved June fourth, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, entitled, "An act making appropriations for sundry civil expenses of the Government for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, and for other purposes ", that “The President is hereby authorized at any time to modify any Executive order that " has been or ma hereafter be made establishing any forest reserve, and by such modification may reduce the area or change the boundary lines of such reserve, or may vacate altogether any order creating such reserve "; And whereas, the public lands in the Territory of New Mexico, within the limits hereinafter described, are lin art covered with timber, and it appears that the public good would be promoted by setting apart and reserving said lands as a public reservation. , ' Now, therefore, I, Theodore Roosevelt, President of the United APH ¤¤*°¤d°d· States, by virtue of the power in me vested by the aforesaid acts of Congress, do hereby make known and proclaim that the Gila River Forest Reserve, in the Territory of New Mexico, established by proclamation of March second, eighteen hundred and ninety-nine, is 1·»et,p.a1ze. 4 hereby so changed and enlarged as to include all those certain tracts, ieces or parcels of land lying and being situate in the Territory of New Mexico, and within the boundaries particularly described as follows: Beginning at the north-east corner of Township five (5) South, D°°°'*¤“°“·· Range sixteen (16) \Vest, New Mexico Principal Meridian, New Mexico; thence southerly along the range line, allowing for the proper offset on the First (lst) Standard Parallel South. to the north-west corner of Township nine (9) South, Range fifteen (15) West; thence easterly to the north-east corner of said township; thence southerly to the south-east corner of said township; thence easterly to the south-west corner of Section thirty-two (32), Township nine (9) South, Range twelve (12) \Vest: thence northerly to the north-west corner of Section eight (8). said township; thence easterly to the north—east corner of said section; thence northerly to the north-west corner of Section thirty-three (33), Township eight (8) South, Range twelve (12) \Vest; thence easterly to the northeast corner of said section; thence northerly to the north-west corner of Section twenty-two (22). said township; thence easterly to the north-east corner of Section twenty-four (24), said township; thence southerly to the north·west corner of Section thirty (30), Township eight (8) South, Range eleven (11) West: thence easterly to the north-east corner of said section: thence southerly to the south—east corner of Section thirty-one (31), said township; thence easterly to voi. xxxiv, PT 3——19
