Br THE PRESIDENT or THE UVNITED Srsrns or AMERICA A PROCLAMATION Deschutes National WHEREAS an Executive Order dated June thirteenth, nineteen F°ii¤°°Q¤%qi»§g` hundred and eight, directed that certain portions of the Blue Mountains, Cascade, and Fremont National Forests should constitute the Deschutes National Forest; and an Executive Order dated July fourteenth, nineteen hundred and eight, transferred certain areas from the Deschutes National Forest to the Fremont National Forest; and WHEREAS it ap ars that the public good will be promoted by excluding from the igeschutes National Forest certain ands within the State of Oregon; A¤¤¤<¤mf¤*=¤¤·i· Now, therefore, I, William H. Taft, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the power in me vested by the Act of Congress approved June fourth, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, entitled V°l· W- P- 3** "ri)n Act Mak' appropriations for sund civil ex enses of the Goving PP P . KY _ _ P _ ernment for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, and for other apurposes," do proclaim that the boundaries of the Deschutes Nation Forest are hereby changed and that thely are now as shown on the diagram forming a part hereof. Agricultural lands- his proclamation shall not prevent the settlement and entry of any lands heretofore opened to sett ement and entry under the Act of Congress approved June eleventh, nineteen hundred and six, entitled V¤¤- 34, em "An Act,;l`o provide for the entry of Agricultural lands within forest reserves. Lbiagdgumrgwmd to The lands hereby excluded from the Deschutes National Forest W °' which are not embraced in withdrawals for administrative sites for use in the management of the Forest, or in an other reservation ora propriation, shall be restored to the public dbmain and become suibject to settlement under the general provisions of the homestead laws on such date and after such notice b publication as the Secretary of the Interior may prescribe, but shally not become subject to entry, filing, selection, or other form of appropriation until the expiration of thirty days from the date so fixed, and no person will be permitted to gain or exercise any riglht whatever under any settlement or occupation begun prior to suc date, and all such settlement and occupation are hereby forbidden. It is not intended by this proclamation to release any land from reservation except the areas indicated on the diagram as eliminated, nor to reserve any land not heretofore embraced in a National Forest.
