For the instruction and supervision of children in the vacation schools and playgrounds, and supervisors and teachers of vacation schools and playgrounds may also be supervisors and teachers of day schools, $33,000. To carry out the purposes of the Act approved June 11, 1926, entitled "An Act to amend the Act entitled `An Act for the retirement of public-school teachers in the District of Columbia,' approved Ja nu ar y 15, 1920, and for other purp oses " (41 Stat ., pp . 387-390), $400 ,000 . NIGHT SCHO OLS Salaries : For teachers and janitors of night schools, including teachers of indus trial, co mmercial, and tra de instru ction, an d teacher s and janitors of night schools may also be teachers and janitors of day schools, $95,000 . Contingent expenses : For contingent and other necessary expenses, including equipment and purchase of all necessary articles and sup- plies for classes in industrial, commercial, and trade instruction, $4,500 . THE DE AF, DU MB, AND BLIND For expenses attending the instruction of deaf and dumb persons admitted to the Columbia Institution for the Deaf from the District of Columbia, under section 4864 of the Revised Statutes, and as provided for in the Act approved March 1, 1901 (U. S. C., p. 685, sec. 238), and under a contract to be entered into with the said institution by the commissioners, $27,500. For m ainte nance and tuit ion o f co lored deaf -mute s of teac hable age belonging to the District of Columbia, in Maryland, or some other State, under a contract to be entered into by the commissioners, $6,500 : Provided, That all expenditures under this appropriation shall be ma de und er the super vision of the Board of Ed ucatio n . For instruction of blind children of the District of Columbia, in Maryland, or some other State, under a contract to be entered into by th e comm ission ers, $10,500 : P rovid ed, Th at all expen diture s unde r this appropriation shall be made under the supervision of the Board of Education . AMERICANIZATION WORK For Americanization work and instruction of foreigners of all ages in both day and night classes, and teachers and janitors of Americanization schools may also be teachers and janitors of the day schools, $11,000 . For contingent and other necessary expenses, including books, equipment, and supplies, $1,000 . COMM UNIT Y CE NTER DEPARTMENT For personal services of the director, general secretaries, and community secretaries in accordance with the Act approved June 4, 1924 (43 Stat., pp . 369, 370) ; clerks and part-time employees, includ- ing janitors on account of meetings of parent-teacher associations and other activities, and contingent expenses, equipment, supplies, and l ighting f ixtures, $42,000 .
