QUA RTE RMA STE R C ORPS National cemeteries. Maint enance , etc . For ma intain ing an d imp roving natio nal ce meter ies, i ncludi ng fuel for and pay of superintendents and the superintendent at Mexico City, laborers and other employees, purchase of tools and materials ; purchase of one motor-drawn hearse at a cost not to exceed $2,100, and for the repair, maintenance, and operation of motor vehicles ; care and maintenance of the Arlington Memorial Amphi- theater, chapel, and grounds in the Arlington National Cemetery, and perma nent American cemeteries ab road, includi ng not to exce ed $2,250 for allowances for living quarters, including heat, fuel, and light, as authorized by the Act approved June 26, 1930 (46 Stat ., p. 818) ; for repair to roadways but not to more than a single approach road to any national cemetery constructed under special Act of Congress ; for headstones for unmarked graves of soldiers, sailors, and marines under the Acts approved March 3, 1873 (U . S . C ., title 24, sec . 279), February 3, 1879 (U . S . C., title 24, sec . 280), March 9, 1906 (34 Stat ., p . 56), March 14, 1914 (38 Stat ., p . 768), and Feb- ruary 26, 1929 (U . S . C ., Supp . III, title 24, sec . 280a), and civilians interred in post cemeteries ; for recovery of bodies and the disposi- tion of remains of military personnel and civilian employees of the Army under Act approved March 9, 1928 (U . S . C ., Supp. III, title 10, sec . 916) ; for the care, protection, and maintenance of the Con- federate Mound in Oakwood Cemetery at Chicago, the Confederate Stockade Cemetery at Johnstons Island, the Confederate burial plats owned by the United States in Confederate Cemetery at North Alton , the Confed erate Cemet ery, C amp Ch ase, at Col umbus, the Confederate section in Greenlawn Cemetery at Indianapolis, the Confederate Cemetery at Point Lookout, and the Confederate Ceme- tery at Rock Island, $1,152,658, of which $187,843 shall be available immed iately : Provid ed, That no railroad shall be permitted upon any right of way which may have been acquired by the United States leading to a national cemetery, or to encroach upon any roads or walks constructed thereon and maintained by the United Stat(s Provided further, That no part of this appropriation shall be used for repairing any roadway not owned by the United States within the cor porate limits of any city, town, o r vill age . For repair and preservation of monuments, tablets, observation tower, roads, fences, and so forth, made and constructed by the United State s upon public lands within the limits of the Antietam battlefield, near Sharpburg, Maryland ; for maintenance, repair, Superintendent. and operation of motor vehicles, and for pay of superintendent, said superintendent to perform his duties under the direction of the Quartermaster Corps and to be selected and appointed by the Sec- retary of War , at h is disc retion, the p erson s elected for t his pos ition to have been either a commissioned officer or enlisted man who has been honorably mustered out or discharged from the military service of the United States and who may have been disabled for active field service in line of duty, $7,680 . For repairs and preservation of monuments, tablets, roads, fences, and so forth, made and constructed by the United States in Cuba and China to mark the places where American soldiers fell, $820 .
