WATER SER VICE The following sums are appropriated wholly out of the revenues of the water department for expenses of the Washington Aqueduct and its appurtenances and for expenses of water department, namely WASHINGTON AQUEDUCT Maintenance, etc ., of, For operation, including salaries of all necessary employees, main- and a ccess ories . tenance a nd repair of W ashington Aqu educts and th eir accessorie s, including Dalecarlia, G eorgetown, Mc Millan Park, first and seco nd High Service Reservoirs, Washington Aqueduct tunnel, the filtra- tion plants, the pumping plants and th e plant for th e preliminary treatment of the water su pply, ordinar y repairs, gra ding, opening ditches, and other maintenance of Conduit Road, purchase, installa- tion, and maintenance of water meters on Federal services, pur- chase, care, repair, and operation of vehicles, including the purchase and exchange of one passenger-carrying motor vehicle at a cost not to exceed $1,200 ; purchase and repair of rubber boots and protective apparel, and for each and every purpose connected therewith, $450,000. ofControl affected . not

For maintenance of the water department distribution system, including pumping stations and machinery, water mains, valves, fire and public hydrants, and all buildings and accessories, and motor trucks, and the replacement by purchase and exchange of the following motor-propelled vehicles : Three engineer field wagons not to exceed $2 ,100, three seven hundred and fifty-pound trucks not to exceed $1,500, fourteen one-ton trucks not to exceed $12, 000, one one-and- one-half-ton truck not to exceed $ 1, 5 0 0 , two three-to n trucks not to exceed $7,000, and one four-ton truck not to exceed $4,000 ; purchase of fuel, oils, waste, and other materials, and the employment of all labor necessary for the proper execution of this work ; and for continent expenses, including books, blanks, sta- tionery, printing and binding not to exceed $2,000, postage, purchase of technical reference books, and periodicals, not to exceed $75, pur- chase and in stallation of two automati c billing mach ines, and the purchase of six hundred meter reading binders, not to exceed $3,500, and other necessary items, $11,000 ; in all for maintenance, $371,340, Wat er was te sur vey of which $30,000 shall be available for continuing a survey of water waste in the distribution system, including personal services, and Bryant Street pumps . $5,000 shall be available only for operation of pumps at Bryant Street pumping station upon interruption of service from Dalecarlia pumping station .
