S. C., title 39, sec. 423), and May 27, 1908 (U. S. C., title 39, sec . 423), relating to the transmission of mail by pneumatic tubes or other similar devices shall be applicable hereto . For vehicle service ; the hire of vehicles ; the rental of garage facilities ; the purchase, exchange, and maintenance of motor vehi- cles ; the hire of supervisors, clerical assistance, mechanics, drivers, garagemen, and such other employees as may be neces sary in pro- vidin g vehi cles a nd veh icle servic e for use in the c ollec tion, trans- portation, and delivery of the mail, $14,918,734 : Provided, That the Postmaster General may, in his disbursement of this appropriation apply a part thereof to the leasing of quarters for the housing oy Government-owned motor vehicles at a reasonable annual `rental for a term not exceeding ten years : Provided further, That the Post- master General, during the fiscal year 1934, may purchase and main- tain from the appropriation " Vehicle service' such tractors and trailer trucks as may be required in the operation of the vehicle service : Provided further, That no part of this appropriation shall be expended for maintenance or repair of motor-propelled passenger- carrying vehicles for use in connection with the administrative work of the Pgst Office Department in the District of Columbia .
