July 2,1932. To provide for the appointment of an acting secretary of the Territory of Hawaii (H . R . 308.] during th e absence or i llness of the secretary .

(Public, No. 242 .] Be it enact ed by th e Senate and Hou se of Re presenta tives of the Hawaii United States o f America in Congress assembled, That section 69 of Vol .31p .154 . the Act entitled "An Act to provide a government for the Territory u . S.C.,p.1601. of Hawaii," approved April 30, 1900 (U. S. C., title 48, sec. 534), is amended by adding at the end thereof a new paragraph to read as follows : tc

Appointment o f act . The secretary may, with the approval of the governor, designate ing s ecret ary, auth or- some other officer of the government of the Territory of Hawaii to 1ze d . act as secretary during his temporary absence or during his illness . Such designation and approval shall be in writing and shall be filed in the office of the governor, and a copy thereof, certified by the governor, shall be filed in the office of the Secretary of the Interior of the U nited St ates . Su ch perso n so des ignated s hall, du ring the temporary absenc e or illness of the secretary, b e known as the ac ting secretary of the Territory of Hawaii, and shall have and exercise all the powers and duties of the secretary, except those provided for b N o add iti ona l com. section 70 of this Act (U. S. C., title 48, sec. 535). Such actin Pensation. secretary shall serve without ad ditional compens ation, but the se cre- tary shall be responsible and liable on his official bond for all acts done by the acting secretary in the performance of his duties as acting secretary ."
