June 21, 1934 . To provide for the construction and operation of a vessel for use in research work [H.R . 8930.] with respect to ocean fisheries .
[Public, No . 447 .] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States o f America in Congress assembled, That, when funds are made available as authorized by section 2 of this Act, the Secre- tary of Commerce is authorized and directed (1) to cause plans and specifi cation s to b e prep ared f or the constr uction and e quipme nt of a vessel for use in such research work with respect to ocean fisheries as the Se cretary f inds will be usefu l to pers ons engag ed in the fishing industr y ; an d (2) to con tract for th e cons tructio n and equipm ent of such vessel. Such vessel shall be maintained and operated under the supervision of the Secretary of Commerce. SEC . 2 . There is authorized to be appropriated $500,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary, to carry out the purposes of the first sentence of section 1 of this Act . Approved, June 21, 1934 .
