The provisions of the Legislative Pay Act of 1929 are hereby amended so as to correspond with the changes made by this Act in the designations and rates of salary of certain positions under the Senate . CONTINGENT EXPENSES OF THE SENATE Fo r pur chas e, ex chang e, dr ivin g, ma inten ance , and oper ation of an automobile for the Vice President . $9,000, of which $5,000 shall be immediately available . For reporting the debates and proceedings of the Senate, payable in equal monthly installments, $57,323 . Fo r ser vice s in clean ing, repa iring , and var nishi ng fu rnitu re, $2,000. For expenses of inquiries and investigations ordered by the Senate, including compensation to stenographers of committees, at such rate as may be fixed by the Committee to Audit and Control the Contingent Expenses of the Senate, but not exceeding 25 cents per hundred words, $118,955 : Provided, That no part of this appropria- tion shall be expended for services, personal, professional, or other- wise, in excess of the rate of $3,600 per annum : Provided further, That no part of this appropriation shall be expended for per diem and subsistence expenses except in accordance with the provisions of the Subsistence Expense Act of 1926, app roved June 3, 1926, as amended . For payment of one half of the salaries and other expenses of the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation as authorized by law, $25,500 . For folding speeches and pamphlets, at a rate not exceeding $1 per thousan d, $10 ,000 . Fo r fuel , oil, cotto n wast e, and adver tising, exclu sive o f labo r, $2,000. For repairs, improvements, equipment, and supplies for Senate kitchens and restaurants, Capitol Building and Senate Office Build- ing, including personal and other services, to be expended from the contingent fund of the Senate, under the supervision of the Com- mittee on Rul es, Un ited S tates Senate , fisca l year 1934, $35,0 00 .
