For the instruction and supervision of children in the vacation schools and playgrounds, and supervisors and teachers of vacation schools and playgrounds may also be supervisors and teachers of day schools, $26,460 . Soliciting subscrip- tions' etc ., in schools No part of any appropriation made in this Act shall be paid to prohibited . any person employed under or in connection with the public schools of the District of Columbia who shall solicit or receive, or permit to be solici ted or recei ved, o n any public- school premi ses, a ny sub - scription or donation of money or other thing of value from any pupil enrolled in such public schools for presentation of testimonials to school officials or for any purpose except such as may be author- ized by the Board of Education at a stated meeting upon the written recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools . NIGHT SCH OOLS For teachers and janitors of night schools, including teachers of industrial, commercial, and trade instruction, and teachers and janitors of night schools may also be teachers and janitors of day schools, $85,246 . For contingent and other necessary expenses, including equipment and purchase of all necessary articles and supplies for classes in industrial, commercial, and trade instruction, $4,000 . THE DE AF, DUMB, AND BLIND For maintenance and instruction of deaf and dumb persons admitted to the Columbia Institution for the Deaf from the District of Columbia, under section 4864 of the Revised Statutes, and as provided for in the Act approved March 1, 1901 (U .S .C ., title 24, sec . 238), and under a contract to be entered into with the said insti- tution by the Commissioners, $32,500 . For maintenance and instruction of colored deaf-mutes of teach- able ag e belo nging to the Distr ict of Columb ia, in Maryl and, o r some other State, under a contract to be entered into by the Commis- sioners, $6,000 : Provided, That all expenditures under this appro- priation shall be made under the supervision of the Board of Educ atio n . For maint enance and i nstruc tion o f blin d child ren of the D istric t of Columbia, in Maryland, or some other State, under a contract to be entered into by the Commissioners, $10,000 : Provided, That all expenditures under this appropriation shall be made under the supervision of the Board of Education .
