[CHAPTER 304 .] AN ACT To authorize the coinage of 50-cent pieces in commemoration of the two hun- dred and fiftieth an niversary of the foundi ng and sett lement of th e city of New Rochelle, New York . Be it enacted b y the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That in commemo- ration of the two-hundred-and-fiftieth anniversary of the founding and settl ement of the city of New Roche lle, N ew Yor k, the re sha ll be coined at a mint of the United States to be designated by the Dire ctor of the Mint not to exceed t wenty-fi ve thou sand sil ver 50-c ent pie ces of stand ard si ze, we ight, and co mposit ion an d of a speci al appropriate single design to be fixed by the Director of the Mint, with the approval of the Secretary of the Treasury, but the United States shall not be subject to the expense of making the necessary dies and other preparations for this coinage . SEC . 2 . The coins herein authorized shall bear the date 1938, irre- spe ctive of the year in whi ch the y are minted or is sued, shall be legal tender in any payment to the amount of their face value, and shall be issued only upon the request of a committee of not less than three persons du ly authorized by the mayor of the city of New Rochelle, New York, upon payment by it of the par value of such coi ns, bu t not less t han tw enty-f ive th ousand such coins shall be issued to it at any one time and no such coins shall be issued after the expiration of one year after the date of enactment of this Act . Such coins may be disposed of at par or at a premium by such com- mittee, and the net proceeds shall be used by it in defraying the expenses incidental and appropriate to the commemoration of such eve nt. SEC. 3. All laws now in force relating to the subsidiary silver coins of the United States and the coining or striking of the same, regu- lating and guarding the process of coinage, providing for the pur- chase of material, and for the transportation, distribution, and red emptio n of c oins, for th e prev ention of de baseme nt or counte r- feiting, for the security of the coins, or for any other purposes, whethe r such l aws are penal or otherwi se, shal l, so f ar as ap plicable , apply to the coinage herein authorized . May 6, 1936. To aut horize a pre liminary ex amination of the Marais des Cygnes River, in the [H . R . 8301 .] State of Kansas, with a view to the control of its floods .

[Public, No. 557 .] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States o f America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of War be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to cause a pre- liminary examination to be made of the Marais des Cygnes River, in the State of Kansas, with a view to the control of its floods in accordance with the provisions of section 3 of an Act entitled "An Act to provide for the control of the floods of the Mississippi River and of the Sacram ento R iver, Califo rnia, and fo r othe r purp oses", approved March 1, 1917, the cost thereof to be paid from appropria- tions heret ofore or her eafter made for ex aminat ions, survey s, and contingencies of rivers and harbors .
