147 7 SEC. 2 . (a) If the trial of any case has been entered upon in the northern district of Alabama before said district judge for the north- ern and middl e dis trict s of Alaba ma an d has not been concl uded on or before the date of enactment of this Act, the jurisdiction in such northern district of said judge shall be deemed to be extended as to such t rial until it has be en conclud ed . (b) The said judge shall have power, notwithstanding his abse nce from such northern district, to de cide all matters which have been submitted to him within such district, to decide motions for new trials, settle bills of exceptions, certify or authenticate narratives of testimony, or perform any other act required by law or the rules to be performed in order to prepare any case so tried by him for review in an appellate court ; and his action thereon in writing filed with the clerk of the court where the t rial or hearing was had shall be as valid as if such action had been taken by him within such district and prior to the date of enactment of this Act . SEC . 3 . Nothing in t his Act shall be construed to alter or amend any provision of law relating to t he designation and assignment of a district judge to hold court in a district other than his own .
