Hosp ital mainte - nance, medical exam- inations, etc . 39 Stat. 885. 8U.S.0.§152 . 75 TH CONGRESS, 1sT SESSION-CH . 180 -MAY 14, 1937 to be President of the United States, $810,000 : Provided, That no part of the amount herein appropriated shall be used in defraying the expenses of any person subpenaed by the United States courts to attend any trial before a United States court or preliminary exami- nation before any United States commissioner, which expenses shall be paid from the appropriation for "Fe es of witnesses and jurors, United States courts" : Provided further, That of the amount herein appropriated, not to exceed $10,000 may be expended in the discretion of the Secretary of the Treasury for the purpose of securing informa- tion concerning violations of the laws relating to the Treasury Department, and for services or information looking toward the apprehension of criminals. White House Police : Captain, lieutenant, three sergeants, and for fifty-five privates, at rates of pay provided by law ; in all, $146,900. For uniforming and equipping the White House Police, including the purchase, issue , and repair of revolvers and the purchase and issue of ammunition and miscellaneous supplies, to be procured in such manner as the President in his discretion may determine, $3,750 . PUBLIC HEALT H SERVICE Sala ries, offic e of Surge on Gen eral : F or pe rsonal serv ices in the District of Columbia, $316,000 Commissioned officers, pay, and so forth : For pay, allowance, and commutation of quarters for regular commissioned medical officers, including the Surgeon General and assistant surgeons general and for other regular commissioned officers, $1,820,000. Acting assistant surgeons, pay : For pay of acting assistant sur- g eons ( nonco mmiss ioned medic al off icers ), $3 40,200 . Hereafter field employees of the Public Health Service, except those employed on a per-diem or fee basis, who render part-time duty and are also subject to call at any time for other services, may be paid annual compensation for such p art-time duty and, in addi- tion, such fees for such other services as the Secretary of the Treas- ury may determine : Pro vide d, That the total amount paid to any such employee f or any fiscal year shall in no case exceed the amount of the minimum annual salary rate of the classification grade of the employee . Pay of other employees : For pay of all other employees (attend- ants, and so forth), $1,000,000 . Freight transportation, and so forth : For freight, transportation, and traveling expenses, including allowances for living quarters including heat, fuel, and light, as au thorized by the Act approve June 26, 1930 (U . S. C ., title 5, sec . 118a) not to exceed $5,000 but not to exceed $1,700 for any one person ; the expenses, except mem- bership fees, of officers when officially detailed to attend meetings for the promotion of public health ; contract stenographic reporting services ; not to exceed $450 for journals and scientific books, office of the Surgeon General ; and the packing, crating, drayage, and transportation of the personal effects of commissioned officers, scien- tific personnel, pharmacists, and nurses of the Public Health Service, upon permanent change of station, $25,450 : Provided, That funds expendable for transportation and traveling expenses may also be used for preparation for shipment and transportation to their former homes of remains of officers who die in line of duty .
