S . C ., title 48, sec . 435), October 2, 19 17 (U. S. C., title 30, sec. 141), February 25, 1920 (U. S. C., title 30, sec . 181), as amended, and March 4, 1921 (U . S . C ., title 48, sec . 444), and other Acts r elating to th e mining and r ecovery of mi nerals on Indian and public lands and naval petroleum reserves ; and for every o ther e xpense incid ent thereto, including sup pli es, eq uip men t, expenses of travel and subsistence, the construction, maintenance, and r epair of nec essary camp build ings and appurtenances thereto, $315,000, of which amount not to exceed $60,000 may be expended for personal services in the District of Columbia ; During the fiscal ye ar 1938 the he ad of any dep artment or ind e- pendent establishment of the Government having funds available for scientific and technical investigations and requiring cooperative work by the. Geological Survey on scientific and technical investigations within the . scope of the functions of that bureau and which it is unable to perform within the limits of its appropriations may, with the approval of the Secretary of the Interior, transfer to the Geo- logical Survey such sums as may be necessary to carry on such inves- tigations . The Secretary of the Treasury shall transfer on the books of the Treasury Department any sums which may be authorized hereunder, and such amounts shall be placed to the credit of the Geological Survey for the performance of work for the department or establishment from which the transfer is made : Provided, That any sums transferred by any department or independent establish- ment of the Government to the Geological Survey for cooperative wor k in connecti on with this appropriation may be expend ed in the same manner as sums appropriated herein may be expended : Pro- vided further, That any funds herein appropriated for the Geological Survey for cooperative work may be utilized prior to July 1, 1937, as required to enable the Geological Survey to continue its coopera- tive work pending reimbursement from cooperative agencies. the amo unt so utiliz ed to be repa id to the appr opriation from wh ich advanced ; During the fiscal year 1938, upon the request of the Secretary of the Interior, the Secretary of War or the Secretary of the Navy is authorized to furnish aerial photographs required for mapping proj- ects, insofar as the furnishing of such photographs will be economi- cal to the Feder al Government and does not conflict with military or naval operations or the other parts of the regular training program of the Army, Nav y, and Marine Corps flying services, and the Sec- ret ary of the In terior is aut horized to rei mburse the Wa r or Navy Department for the cost of making the photographs, such cost to be confined to the actual cost of gasoline, oil, film, paper, chemicals, and the labor performed in developing the photographic negatives and the printing of copies of photographs, and the per-diem expenses of the personnel authorized b y law, togethe r with such i ncidental exp enses as care and minor re pairs to plane and transpor tation of personnel to and from projects, and the War Department or the Navy Department, on request of the Department of the Interior, is author- ized to furnis h copies to a ny State, cou nty, or munici pal agency Printing and bind- ing.
