SALARIES AND MILEAGE OF MEMBERS For compensation of Members of the House of Representatives, Delegates from Territories, and the Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico, $4,385,000. For mileage of Representatives, the Delegate from Hawaii, and the Resident Commissioner from Puerto Rico, and for expenses of the Delegate from Alaska, $171,000. For compensation of officers, clerks, messengers, and others: OFFICE OF THE SPEAKER Salaries: Secretary to the Speaker $4,620; three clerks to the Speaker, at $2,400 each; messenger to Speaker, $1,680; in all, $13,500. THE SPEAKER'S TABLE Salaries: Parliamentarian $4,500, and $1,500 additional so long as the position is held by the present incumbent, and for preparing Digest of the Rules $1,000 per annum; Assistant Parliamentarian, $2,760 and $750 additional so long as the position is held by the present incumbent; messenger to Speaker's Table, $1,740; in all, $12,250. CHAPLAIN Chaplain of the House of Representatives, $1,680. OFFICE OF THE CLERK Salaries: Clerk of the House of Representatives, including com- pensation as disbursing officer of the contingent fund, $8,000; Journal clerk, two reading clerks, and tally clerk, at $5,000 each; enrolling clerk, $4,000; disbursing clerk, $3,960 and $1,040 additional so long as the position is held by the present incumbent; file clerk, $3,780; chief bill clerk, $3,540; assistant enrolling clerk, $3,900; assistant to disbursing clerk, $3,120 and $780 additional so long as the position is held by the present incumbent; stationery clerk, $2,880; librarian, $2,760; assistant librarian, and assistant file clerk, at $2,520 each; assistant Journal clerk, and assistant librarian, at $2,460 each; clerks-one at $2,460, four at $2 340 each; bookkeeper, and assistant in disbursing office, at $2,160 each; three assistants to chief bill clerk at $2,100 each; stenographer to the Clerk, $2,500; assistant in station- ery room, $1,740; three messengers at $1,680 each; stenographer to Journal clerk, $1,560; laborers-three at $1,440 each, ten at $1,260 each; telephone operators-assistant chief, $1,800; twenty-three at $1,560 each; substitute telephone operator, when required, at $4 per day, $1,464; property custodian and superintendent of furniture and repair shop, who shall be a skilled cabinetmaker or upholsterer and experienced in the construction and purchase of furniture, $3,960; two assistant custodians at $3,360 each; locksmith and typewriter repairer, $1,860; messenger and clock repairer, $1,740; operation, maintenance, and repair of motor vehicles, $1,200; in all, $172,544.
