55 STAT.] SWITZERLAND-EXTRADITION-JAN. 31 , 1940 and Minister plenipotentiary of the United States of America, in Berne; The Swiss Federal Council: Mr. Johannes Baumann, Federal Councillor, Chief of the Federal Department of Justice and Police, who, after having exchanged their full powers, which were found to be in good and due form, have agreed upon the following arti- cles: ARTICLE I. The list of crimes and offenses for which extradition may be re- quested, enumerated in Article II of the said treaty of May 14, 1900, as modified by the supplementary treaty of January 10, 1935, is amended as follows: 3. The word "extortion" is added after the word "robbery" and before the words "burglary, house-breaking or shop-breaking". 9. The words "abduction" and "kidnapping of minors" are omit- ted. The words "traffic in women and children; sequestration, de- fined as the illegal detention or imprisonment of an individual, or other unlawful deprivation of his freedom; kidnapping;" are added before the words "rape; bigamy; abortion". ARTICLE II. This treaty shall be considered as an integral part of the treaty of May 14, 1900, and Article II of the latter treaty shall be read as if the list of crimes or offenses which appears therein had from the first included the modifica- tions made and specified under numbers 3 and 9 in Article I of this treaty. 278941--42 -PT. La liste des crimes et d6lits pour lesquels l'extradition peut etre demandee et qui sont enu- meres a l'article II dudit traite du 14 mai 1900, modifi6 par le traite additionnel du 10 janvier 1935, est amend6e comme suit: Chiffre 3: Le mot "extorsion" est ajoute apres les mots "vol commis a l'aide de la violence ou de l'intimidation" et avant les mots "vol commis de nuit avec effraction ou escalade, effraction ou escalade dans une maison ou un magasin". Chiffre 9: Les mots "rapt" et "enlevement de mineurs" sont supprimes. Les mots "traite des femme et des enfants; sequestra- tion, definie comme la detention ou l'emprisonnement illegal d'une personne ou autre privation ill6- gale de sa libert6; enlverment" sont ajout6s avant les mots "viol; bigamie; avortement". ARTICLE II. Le present trait6 sera considre6 comme une partie int6grante du traite du 14 mai 1900 et l'article II de ce dernier trait6 sera lu comme si la liste des crimes ou delits qui y figurent avait compris des l'origine les modifications apportees et specifi6es sous chif- fres 3 et 9 dans l'article Ier du present trait6.
