OFFICE OF DEFENSE MOBILIZATION SALARIES AND EXPENSES

For expenses necessary for the Office of Defense Mobilization, including newspapers and periodicals (not exceeding $500); hire of passenger motor vehicles; reimbursement of the General Services Administration for security guard service; and expenses of attendance at meetings concerned with the purposes of this appropriation; $2,214,000, of which $182,000 shall be available for the Interdepartmental Radio Advisory Committee: Provided, That contracts for not to exceed eight persons under this appropriation for temporary or intermittent services as authorized by section 15 of the Act of August 2, 1946 (5 U.S.C. 55a), may be renewed annually.

PRESIDENT'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION

For necessary expenses of the President's Advisory Committee on Government Organization, established by Executive Order 10482 of January 24, 1953, including services as authorized by section 15 of the Act of August 2, 1946 (5 U.S.C. 55a), at rates not to exceed $50 per diem for individuals; expenses of attendance at meetings concerned with the purposes of the Committee; and actual transportation expenses and an allowance of not to exceed $15 per diem in lieu of subsistence while away from their homes or regular places of business, for members of the Committee and other persons serving without compensation; $50,000. FUNDS A P P R O P R I A T E D TO THE P R E S I D E N T EMERGENCY F U N D FOR THE PRESIDENT, NATIONAL DEFENSE

For expenses necessary to enable the President, through such officers or agencies of the Government as he may designate, and without regard to such provisions of law regarding the expenditure of Government funds or the compensation and employment of persons in the Government service as he may specify, to provide in his discretion for emergencies affecting the national interest, security, or defense which may arise at home or abroad during the current fiscal year, $1,000,000: Provided, That no part of this appropriation shall be available for allocation to finance a function or project for which function or project a budget estimate of appropriation was transmitted pursuant to law during the Eighty-fifth Congress, and such appropriation denied after consideration thereof by the Senate or House of Representatives or by the Committee on Appropriations of either body. For necessary expenses, as authorized by the Act of June 26, 1946 (36 U.S.C. 121, 123-132, 138), as amended by the Act of July 25, 1956 (70 Stat. 640), including the acquisition of land or interest in land in foreign countries; purchase and repair of uniforms for caretakers of national cemeteries and monuments outside of the United States and its Territories and possessions; not to exceed $65,000 for expenses of travel; rent of office and garage space in foreign countries;
