BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

Ante, p. 554.

WHEREAS there is to be held at San Francisco, California, from September 18, 1959, to September 27, 1959, inclusive, an event known as "Pacific Festival D a y s "; and WHEREAS the purpose of this festival is to focus attention on the growth and development of cities. States, and nations bordering the Pacific Ocean and thereby to foster mutual understanding and cordial relations among the peoples of these areas; and WHEREAS the Congress, by a joint resolution approved September 14, 1959, has authorized and requested the President to issue a proclamation inviting foreign nations to participate in the 1959 Pacific Festival; and WHEREAS participation by both American citizens and foreign nationals in this event is in keeping with our objective of cultivating better relationships among the nations and the peoples of the world; and it may be expected to contribute to the welfare and benefit of NOW, THEREFORE, I, DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER, President of the United States of America, do hereby authorize and direct the Secretary of State to invite, on my behalf, such foreign nations as he may consider appropriate to participate in the 1959 Pacific Festival at San Francisco, California, from September 18 to September 27, 1959.
