A i r Force installations and facilities by proceeding with construction made necessary by changes in Air Force missions, new weapons developments, new and unforeseen research and development requirements, or improved production schedules, if the Secretary of Defense determines that deferral of such construction for inclusion in the next military construction authorization Act would be inconsistent with interests of national security, and in connection therewith to acquire, construct, convert, rehabilitate, or install permanent or temporary public works, including land acquisition, site preparation, appurtenances, utilities, and equipment, in the total amount of $10,000,000: stfii^nJ°c%°m' Provided, That the Secretary of the Air Force, or his designee, shall mittees. uotify the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and House of Representatives immediately upon reaching a final decision to implement, of the cost of construction of any public work undertaken under this section, including those real estate actions pertaining thereto. This authorization will expire as of September 30, 1962, except for those public works projects concerning which the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and House of Representatives have been notified pursuant to this section prior to that date. SEC. 304. Section 9 of the Air Force Academy Act, as amended (68 72 Stat. 659. Stat. 49), is further amended by striking out in the first sentence the 933 1 10 USC figure "$139,797,000" and inserting in place thereof the figure note. "$141,797,000". SEC. 305. (a) Public Law 86-149, as amended, is amended in section 73 Stat. 3 1 3. 301 under the heading " I N S I D E THE UNITED STATES" and subheading "STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND", with respect to Barksdale A i r Force Base, Shreveport, Louisiana, by striking out "$110,000" and inserting in place thereof "$169,000". (b) Public Law 86-149, as amended, is amended by striking out 74 Stat. 182. in clause (3) of section 402 the amounts of "$299,576,800" and "$850,176,800" and inserting in place thereof "$299,635,800" and "$860,234,800", respectively. 74 Stat. 177. SEC. 306. (a) Public Law 86-500 is amended in section 301 under the heading " I N S I D E THE UNITED STATES" and subheading "AIR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT COMMAND", with respect to Arnold Engineering Development Center, Tullahoma, Tennessee, by striking out "$10,600,000" and inserting in place thereof "$11,800,000". (b) Public Law 86-500 is amended by striking out in clause (3) of 74 Stat. 183. section 602 the amounts of "$204,736,000" and "$727,305,000" and inserting in place thereof "$206,036,000" and "$728,605,000", respectively. Appropriation.

SEC. 401. I n addition to the family housing units authorized by titles I, II, and III of this Act, the Secretaries of the Army, Navy, and Air Force are authorized to construct not more than 500 family housing units with necessary utilities at locations and in numbers specified by the Secretary of Defense, or his designee. SEC. 402. There is hereby authorized to be appropriated not to exceed $8,650,000 to carry out the purposes of this title. TITLE V

F a c i l i t i e s for m i s s i l e s and s p a c e systems projects.

SEC. 601. There is hereby authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary of Defense the sum of $27,000,000 for the construction and adjustment of support and technical facilities for missiles and space systems projects. The Secretary of Defense shall allocate funds appropriated pursuant to the provisions of this section to the military departments on such basis as he determines to be necessary in the interest of the National Defense.
